laminar flow hood questions

Hi everyone, I'm new to here, but glad I made it.
My FOAF bought a squirrel cage fan that is 1/3 hp and runs at 1075 rpms. Does anyone know how many cfm this huge thing can push? Is it pretty realistic to think this blower can handle a 2'x2'x6" 99.99% filter for a laminar flow hood? If so where should they purchase. Fungifun has a large list of sites, almost all won't quote until all personal information is entered. A lot if the sites sell 24x24x3 filters. She was thinking maybe tridim or earthstongue. What are your guys thoughts on the whole situation?
Blower: 5kcp39hg p968bs 1/3 hp Rpm1075 A 5.2 Cpnb13400-21 Thanks everyone!

We can't help you with that blower likely. We don't know if it has forward, rear, or straight fan blades.

You can't just go buy a filter if you don't know your fan specs. I mean technically you could but it would be a lot of work dialing it in

You may call them. The guy who builds their flow hoods is super helpful. He will tell you what to purchase.

I'm not sure. I recently bought an AA75 and a series two flow hood and they did me right. The level of help they give you in this and other areas is worth the money alone. They are cool folks.

You're not gonna have any good results when you don't know the output of your fan. Find that first. Call the company who made it if you need to.

Really, why is that 36?
Can't you just tune it in after you build it?
Those are good suggestions. What should be asked else than what the cfm out put is?

Looking at the amps and hp Id be willing to guess the fan would be enough to push through a 2x2 filter if its anything close to this 1/4 hp Dayton squirrel cage blower. It may actually be on the big size yours being 1/3 hp but it also depends on the impeller and housing size. If its too large you can try to throttle it with a heavy duty dimmer.

GE was absolutely no help at all. All they did was transfer me to different people and finally they realized they sold the blower section of the company to a company called train. Lol, they told me to search the yellow pages for a train service, when I am calling about information not service.

There isn't a model number on the housing or an marks at all.
The only other number is on what I believe is the capacitor: 97F9003

The blower is a 4 speed. So that should make things possible. FOAF wants to go for it. Has anyone ordered a filter from earths tongue or has a suggestion for the filter?

Dunno what to tell you man. You're going about this the wrong way, its like buying a big boat without knowing or not if your little truck can tow it. It may or you may have to buy a bigger truck.

60-100 feet per minute is the target airspeed for laminar flow. So if you picked up a 2'x2' astrocel off ebay for $120 you would need 240-400 CFM at ~1 SP. Going off the specs for the 1/4 hp similarly designed furnace blowers I'd say you're pushing more than enough air, probably enough for two 2x2" filters on your highest speed to be honest. You can pick up an anemometer for less than $20 and dial in the fpm using the four speeds on the blower. Good luck!

bummer. you really can't choose a filter without knowing the fan output under static pressure. most fans come with a chart that gives you cfm values for different static pressure ratings. also, you can't just put a fan speed regulator on any old fan. you'll create a huge fire hazard and possibly burn out your motor unless it was built as a variable speed fan.

Thanks grower, I will look into those filters.
Mad, I thinks more like a really big truck with a medium sized boat. I'll keep trying to figure out the cfms. Right now I am more interested in the filter as the blowers already around.
