I've been raking out organic matter from around my house to combat carpenter ants, and I keep finding these truffles. What kind are they? how can i distinguish?
It seems like these have basidia , but they're totally enclosed. Other disected sclerotia from the same patch have pure white insides... (not pictured)

could you provide more information, such as how deep underground you're finding them and your general geographic location (state is good enough eh)

Cool finds. I can't offer any insights into their identity. Sequestrate species can be tricky to ID, especially without microscopy. They superficially resemble an Agaricus.

They're being found in Southern Oregon at 3000' elevation. They smell just like Agaricus. They're living in decomposed leaf litter with Cedar trees nearby, and lots of Symphoricarpos roots(commonly known as the snowberry, waxberry, or ghostberry), maybe with some ceanothus spp. as well. They seem to be about 2-6 inches below the surface, but that's hard to be sure of because of my raking technique.
