Sometimes you just need to go outside * 1

How much philosophy is too much philosophy? Getting trapped in your mind sucks. Examining everything comes to suck and leave you exhausted and with ideas that you made up but which you convinced yourself were true. It only takes time.

Then you go outside and realise you have no idea and trying to understand it all rationally gets in the way of experiencing life.

Experiencing life is the path of the true philosopher. The true philosophical and spiritual quest is to live and understand at the same time.

You can read philosophy for hours and hours but these happy extraverts living to the full have still got a leg up on you, they understand it all better, because they've BEEN THERE. You've just thought about it.

This is directed at no one in particular, maybe another Me out there.

Sometimes you just need to go outside. Not even 'live the mystery', just f'ing go outside and see life for yourself.

Thinking itself is an experience if you ask me, and everything in moderation is best. I'm a philosophy major and I am using the skills I learned to become a lawyer so I can help indigenous peoples in Canada with their land claims and then I plan to use the money I will make to invest in renewable energy infrastructure in indigenous communities so that they don't need to take jobs from fossil fuel extraction companies that want to spew all the carbon under their land into the atmosphere.

If you ask me, the world could use more people who think. Intuition is great when quick decisive action is needed but not enough people think things through rationally. My life now is full of joy and I attribute a great part of this to philosophy.

The only philosophers that are unhappy are the ones who don't walk the walk imo. Live by the principles you conclude are superior and you will live a great life. And for me, this includes time in nature.

I don't think contemplation necessarily gets in the way of living.

Good post Circastes, that's exactly why I don't spend much time on here anymore lol....spend too much time thinking and philosophizing about shit.

For me life has been this dichotomy of being trapped in my mind, over-analyzing the fuck out of everything, obsessive thoughts
VS
living in my heart-space, going with the flow of life without pretense, believing in my self

The mind doesn't believe in the heart or love, it wants logic, it wants answers, it wants certainty and safety and all that jazz. It can be a useful tool for survival, but when you always put mind above heart, you end up living in constant fear and uncertainty. Fuck that.
