Living by power lines

The wife and I are looking at houses that have income potential to allow us to have the mortgage pay itself. We found a property near us and the kids school. Its on 1.5 acres but has a large power line on the property. also has a cell phone tower attached to the structure. Property generates 1600/month from the hydro/cell and 850 to 1000 for the suite. House is 3400 sq ft including suite
Mortgage would be fully covered so we would have more financial freedom. But thoughts about living near the lines. Been on the market 40 days so far. real estate is hot in my area too.
There are many studies that say EMF's don't affect us, but they also said that about asbestos and cigarettes in the past.

I have no idea about the lines but you can always sell and move in the future. Or rent it out. Yeah, get it paid for, move, and rent it out.
/thread
Better yet, buy it then rent out immediately and not worry about the lines.

property is listed at 750k, my house is currently worth 550k I would be approved for the new mortgage due to the existing monthly income
houses with power line tend to sell slower obviously, or you have to drop your price. Area is also developing into townhomes. This neighborhood is one of the last of the large lots
wife is paranoid about EMF's affecting us and the kids, particularly when it comes to cancer

its the same argument that smoking causes lung cancer. There are non smokers to get lung cancer, and 2 packers that live to 100
Hydro will lend us a Gauss meter for free to measure EMF's, might give that a try to alleviate any doubt. I mean we use wifi and cell phones, and stoves, and hairdryers and those all give off EMF's

I'm sure standing anywhere near a microwave while it's running has gotta be pretty bad too.
With all the Tech in the world I'd be hard pressed to find a place that ISN'T saturated with them.
The Gauss Meter probably puts off EMF's.

Um what
Cigarette smokers have a higher chance to get lung cancer than non smokers, that is 100% proven fact. Just because some cigarette smokers get lucky doesn't mean they didn't have a higher chance to get lung cancer than someone who doesn't smoke...

Low frequency or shortwave electro magnetic fields are not going to interact with you in any sort of harmful manner. This isnt even remotely comparable to asbestos or ciggerettes Theres been countless studies done that have shown they have no ill effects whatso ever already. I dont even see what youre questioning. The FCC is very stringent in safety when it comes to high powered sources. Youd know if it was even slightly harmful to you or anyone in the vicinity.

A very informative article on EMFs
http://www.prevention.com/health/healthy-living/electromagnetic-fields-and-your-health
The Russians first noticed during World War II that radar operators (radar operates using radio frequency waves) often came down with symptoms we now attribute to electrical hypersensitivity syndrome. In the 1960s, during the height of the Cold War, they secretly bombarded the US embassy in Moscow with microwave radiation (a higher-frequency RF used to transmit wireless signals), sickening American employees. Radio wave sickness—also called microwave sickness—is now a commonly accepted diagnosis.
When television (also radio wave) was introduced in Australia in 1956, researchers there documented a rapid increase in cancers among people who lived near transmission towers.
In the 1970s, Nancy Wertheimer, PhD, a Denver epidemiologist (since deceased), detected a spike in childhood leukemia (a rare disease) among kids who lived near electric power lines, prompting a rash of studies that arrived at similar conclusions.
In the 1980s, investigators concluded that office workers with high exposure to EMFs from electronics had higher incidences of melanoma—a disease most often associated with sun exposure—than outdoor workers.
In 1998, researchers with the National Cancer Institute reported that childhood leukemia risks were "significantly elevated" in children whose mothers used electric blankets during pregnancy and in children who used hair dryers, video machines in arcades, and video games connected to TVs.
Over the past few years, investigators have examined cancer clusters on Cape Cod, which has a huge US Air Force radar array called PAVE PAWS, and Nantucket, home to a powerful Loran- Cantenna. Counties in both areas have the highest incidences of all cancers in the entire state of Massachusetts.
More recently, the new findings on transients—particularly those crawling along utility wiring—are causing some scientists to rethink that part of the EMF debate pertaining to the hazards of power lines. Could they have been focusing on the wrong part of the EMF spectrum?

An article with no sources. Yeah, super informative.

my uncle lives under a huge power line and his mom has had horses and a multitude of other animals live there and almost every single one has ended up with cancers and rumors and ended up living ~5 years less than expected for their breed/species etc. Not trying to say anything by that, just my experience with EMF's. on rainy nights his fluorescent bulbs on his porch stay lit all night even when not turned on. don't know what to make of that

Looks like we are going to put an offer on the place. We are looking at staying long term but may decide to leverage this property towards another and have this as solely an income property. We put a lot of subjects in the contract and I'm going to test with a gauss meter just to have some piece of mind.
thanks to all the replies.

we submitted an offer of 710K for the place, listed at 750, down from 899 last year (way too high) property is valued at 950 but its just a shill to get higher property tax out of us. fucking liberals Apparently there was another offer being submitted but we stuck to our price. We found out they want to work with our offer so probably looking at a counter today.
Lets see how it goes!
