Outdoor Coir/Verm/Manure P. Cubensis Grow Log

Hi all! This is my first grow log, but not my first grow. I figured I'd show how I do my outdoor patches, IMO it is even easier than growing indoors. The variety of P. cubensis used is Golden Teacher. I'm going to keep it very simple, and I hope you enjoy
For this patch, I inoculated 16 1/2 pint PF Tek jars made using the standard formula. I prefer brown rice to grains as outdoor spawn, as there are a lot of critters afoot in my area that would just love to munch down those grains. I was a little late birthing the jars, so they all had a lot of in vitro pinning, including a few monsters I should have taken a picture of.
I use 4-5 gallons of substrate per patch. Usually I would use horse poo, but this year I was unable to get my hands on any (to be fair, I didn't try very hard because I was busy with other things). With horse poo out of the question, and my jars ready to burst, I grabbed a few bricks of coco coir from a pet shop, and a bag of cheap manure from a hardware store. I already had plenty of vermiculite at home. The manure it turns out was probably mostly chicken manure, a little too hot (aka nitrogen rich) to use a lot of it. All in all, my final recipe for this patch was as follows:
2 bricks coir 3 quarts vermiculite 1 quart mystery manure 1 large handful of gypsum (should have probably used 2 handfuls)
I just dumped it all into a 5 gallon bucket, heated a few gallons of water to about 160F, and added water until there was a few inches of space left. Then I put the lid on, and let it sit until morning. A lot of water was strained using a pillow case, but I attained field capacity by hand when laying the patch.
This patch ended up being 3 layers of substrate and 2 layers of spawn. I dug a hole about 2 inches deep, and started laying down substrate and spawn. When the patch was complete, I pushed it down so the surface was flat. To help protect the patch during colonization, a trash bag held down by bricks was placed over it. I checked it every few days, but it is probably more beneficial to just leave it alone (unless it gets very hot and you suspect it needs some water).

^ A few days of colonization (sorry for poor quality image).
^ A few more days of colonization Once the substrate was nicely colonized, it was time to put some straw on top. The straw does a number of wonderful things for the patch, including holding more water, shading the patch, and creating a perfect micro-climate under the straw for pinning.
Once the straw was placed on top, the waiting and watering began. When the straw was dry, I watered. About 20 days since the first laying of the patch, I found some pins in the straw. It is probably better if you don't go digging through the straw looking for pins, but I do so gently, and my focus isn't on yield but rather I just enjoy the fine hobby of mycology. That said, I expect a pretty big yield off this patch
 ^ PINS!!
Well thank you for reading this far. I will post more pictures as this patch continues to fruit.
Update 1:

^ These are a few clusters sprouting up. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a few good shots of the patch as a whole, but my straw layer is quite thick on this patch, so until they get a little bigger you really can't see them through the straw.
Update 2: Everything pictured here has been harvested! Plenty of pins, and lots of immature mushrooms are coming up all around the patch. Next update probably won't be for a few days, but I'll be back with more, and I'll post how many grams this first harvest is when they finish up in the dehydrator. My girl did eat the biggest one though(18g wet), she's eating pasta with a huge smile on her face right now.

Update 3: Well guys, today has been a very rough day. My phone ist kaput, my tire blew up, and I wasn't able to visit my patch for a day, so all my caps flattened out and dumped spores everywhere. I went out in the dark and harvested what I could (pictured below), but as I was snapping the caps off the stems (I misplaced my xacto knife today as well...) to put them in the dehydrator, I noticed a TON of little bugs in the gills. I'm used to bugs, I see roaches, beetles, ticks, pill "bugs" all the time, but there were probably a few thousand of these very tiny bugs, at this point they were crawling all over my desk. I used a wet paper towel to eliminate them, and turned on the dehydrator. I checked it in a few minutes, and the bottom of the dehydrator was absolutely covered in the bugs. Many were escaping out of the vent holes on the dehydrator, getting all over my desk again. With a heavy heart, I put the dehydrator into a trash bag and shook it around and wiped it down, clean of the tiny bugs. Like I said originally, I do this mostly for the fun of mycology, so the loss of fungus is very regrettable, but I won't let it get me down. Outdoor grows have risks such as this, and I haven't ever seen these tiny bugs before because I always harvest around the time of veil breaking.

Btw the first harvest was 15g dry I'll be back, hopefully with some better luck!
Finale: One last update for anyone in the future reading this.
It rained many inches over the course of a week, effectively drowning my patch. I've been checking it every week or so this summer, and sometimes find a small shroom or two. Last summer was bone dry, this summer is sopping wet. Keep shroomin' guys

Just multispore from a random sporeprint from last year's patch. Sadly I do not have the time or resources to do agar work at home, though I have plenty experience using agar in a lab setting.
And I will keep you guys updated until the very end, I've seen too many cool grow logs that were never completed! Expect more pictures tomorrow or the next day and thanks again for checking in.

Updated, but sad about it. This patch is far from over though, I'll post more (bug free!!!!) delicious shroomies in time.
EDIt: Fudge, you will just have to water your patch a little bit more than most, but you should go for it!
