New cuttings
    #21793477 - 06/11/15 03:23 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I received a shipment of new san pedro cuttings today. They were packaged minimally so that the needles stabbed each plant and now they are oozing.

I understand that the ooze is normal, and the black spots will heal, then turn to a cork colored scar. However, a single one of the cuttings has a bubbly looking, almost rot looking spot instead.

It is the same texture and softness as the rest of the cactus. It just seems a bit worse. I thought it could either be a more traumatic wound, that will heal and cork; OR it could be the beginning of rot.

Any thoughts?

Damn bro. Thing looks like shit. It will be ugly but it looks like it will live regardless. Don't worry too much cause new growth will be pretty.

yea, I paid less money for a large box full of cuttings. The nice cuttings I paid for were all tips, but they still looked pretty fucked up.

Out of the mix box, I got 7 large cuttings (8-10 in), 8 medium cuttings (5-8 in) and 5 little turds. 3 of the turds are only about 3 inches.

20 cuttings total for 28 dollars. Its really not a bad deal. These cuttings are well dried, and almost rooting. I think they will root quick. The new growth will come out beautiful. I am excited to be planting all these new cuttings this year. I think I have nearly 40 cuttings rooting at the moment.

I say it will be fine, but keep it dry and keep an eye on it.  If it gets much worse then carve it out or cut the whole tip off.

Will do. I expected the small pokes and scars...just didn't expect a possible rot.

With a bit of care it should be fine. I'd expose it to good air flow and small doses of sunlight, which will help dry it out. Sunlight will help control or kill any mould. Looks like a PC Pedro? If so, they're tough as nails.
