I don't see anything that worries me. You can increase FAE for a day or two to eliminate excess moisture, if you want, but it doesn't look that bad.
I would fruit it now

They don't look 60% colonized to me :confused2: Are you sure?

Keep in mind that often with coir you don't get those super white and homogeneous substrates you normally get with manure.

Should be metabolites, but give us some more pics so we can see what's going on there.

Wait a minute. Are you keeping those monotubs inside the tent/greenhouse?

If so, take them out and let them be exposed to natural air currents. That could be the issue.

Anyway, the tubs look good (and the jar too, some condensation is normal). No worries except that tent IMO.

Okay, I was thinking about deconstructing the tent entirely and just using the ambient lighting from the window anyways.

That amount of moisture is okay, though? It seems more than a bit excessive!

Or just use a regular fluorescent bulb. Sunlight is good, as long as you don't let the tubs under direct sunlight for too long or your sub will dry out.

Sub is a bit on the wet side, but nothing worrisome. Don't be frustrated, there is no reason so far

It's fairly dim in the bedroom and the shades are closed so the lighting is very low.

I should probably mention I've been messing with PF tek off and on throughout the past 5 years and was only successful once, with a very small flush.

Rye / monotubs seem way more promising so far, but in my lifetime I've only had one low dose trip and experimented with a bit of microdosing.

So each failure is like a colossal kick in nuts at this point :mad::confused::shocked::mushroom2::crazy2:

Well, light is probably one of the least important pinning trigger but you still need it. Just put a lamp over those tubs and forget about them for a week or so (12/12 cycle).

Don't freak out man, like I said you are doing good. Keep us updated.

Doesn't look like it's going too well.

1 pin, looks like an abort.

I'll let these tubs go another week before tossing them. Next monotub should be ready to fruit by then.

I'm usually very patient but lately jasld;faksdjfal, know what I mean?

I'm out of weed, dammit.

lol

Anyways, I removed a lot of the poly-fil, I think I had it stuffed in there too tight. Now it's light and fluffy.

There's a nice carbon filter and  ceiling fan running in the room.

Let's cry together man. It's tough, I know.

Good job on the polyfil, but keep an eye on the fan. Usually you don't want a fan in the same room with your tub, but since you want to dry up the substrate a little bit it should be fine for a a day or two. Don't go overboard though.

For a few days it's not a problem, but it could definitely be an issue for a longer period of time, especially if you live in a dry area.

Anyways I'll post another pic in a few days.

Now, as I'm making this new monotub I'm examining my new jars (which I created with a grain to grain transfer) and I'm noticing a metric shitton of moisture. I knew they were a bit moist when they were fully colonized, but they've been colonized for about a week now and there's a whole lotta more moisture in there, also some yellowing. I'm not sure what to do.

http://imgur.com/GvdtVI5

Yellowing in the spawn before full colonization is a sure sign of contaminates.  Spawning those jars to pasteurized substrate will most likely contaminate before the first flush.
Now if metabolites appear only after the substrate has fully colonized and is in FC conditions then it could be from heat stress...or contaminates as well.

Sometimes my colonizing quart jars develop excess moisture in 1/4 of empty space above the colonizing rye, but the colonizing mycelium itself should not look that wet.  It will lead to bacteria contamination.

I'm not sure what I can do to reduce moisture in my rye jars.

I'm following the "Let's Grow Mushrooms 5 steps to perfect grain spawn" very closely (minus the gypsum) and I'm actually spreading the grain out on aluminum foil to dry for a few hours before putting it in the jar.

I have no idea what is causing the excess moisture, or how to reduce it.

The jars seem to be colonizing quickly anyways. I did a grain to grain transfer with those jars and in a week they're already half colonized. I checked the new monotub yesterday and it looks like it's well on it's way to successfully colonizing.

Any ideas?

To reduce the moisture in your rye you need to bring the grains to a boil for at least 5 minutes right before dumping them into a wire strainer.  Then immediately shake dry the rye until the steam no longer evaporates from the grains.  This is the key.

When the steam is done evaporating off the rye, turn the rye over in the stainer every so often so the surface of the grains continue to dry.

I go through that entire process and afterwards I lay them out in a thin layer to dry for an additional 1-2 hours. This also allows them to reach room temperature so that no condensation occurs inside the jars.

That tends to be the plan, anyways.

Looks like Christmas came early this year!

I have 2 tubs stacked one on top of the other. On the bottom tub, it looks like most of the growth is around the outside. Soooooo I'm assuming it's because the tub on top is blocking the light from getting to the center?

The other tub, (the closeup) has pins/shrooms more numerous but smaller, more evenly spread throughout the tub.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to harvesting these.

I'll try to take a better picture before I harvest the first flush.

I guess my only question is, after the first flush, what do I do before the second flush? Just keep waiting for more? With PF tek I would dunk the cakes for an additional 12-24 hours...how do additional flushes work with monotubs?

:congrats: I told you man :murray:

You can dunk tubs, but if you don't know what you are doing you are better off heavy misting them for a few days :2cents:

Also give that bottom tub more light please.

So, I picked one of the shrooms, the veil was starting to break.

15 grams wet....should amount to about 1.5g dry

Anyways, the base of the stem is pretty gelatinous...totally saturated. A bit translucent.

Is this part still okay to eat or would I be better off cutting that part off?

No problem there. If you want to consume it fresh, just wash it under the faucet or make a tea (my preferred method). If you dry it, you can use the oven, but a dehydrator is cheaper and more effective.

But please do me a favor, pick another one for a good trip

Well I think these things taste and smell gross so I'm probably gonna go the dehydrator route, possibly either make tea, lemon tek or chop it up and mix it with apple sauce. Planning on eating 2.5ish grams cracker dry.

I should've bought a better scale, I only have this pocket scale, which is great for weighing individual doses...but I can't even set a paper plate on it and tare it, and 1 big shroom doesn't fit on the tiny platform.

BUT....

I will say the entire plate full made me a POUND heavier on my digital bathroom scale.

You already ate? I saw this thread yesterday and was about to reply to the picture of the transulsent looking stem on the shroom regarding potency.

I suspect your going to have hela low potency as your shrooms dont look very "meaty" and have virtually zero bruising. The strongest shrooms I ate were fresh and bruised easily, I picked them and within 30 minutes the base where i picked them had turned deep blue/purple on all of them.

The clear stems make it look like the shrooms were lacking nutrition and are mostly water and not much actives in there.

Just a thought.

I'm not sure how others feel, but I think using bruising as a sure-fire way to gauge potency is a bad idea.

I've had shrooms bruise heavily and quickly, but they weren't very potent.
I've also had mushrooms virtually not bruise at all, and trip balls.

So idk:shrug:

by the way, that 15g shroom when dried was 0.9g

seems like a weak batch of shrooms, i wonder if any other shrooms i make from this mycelium will be weak as well

around 70 F

room temp

i don't know any other way around that, i don't have a special room in my place that's warmer than the rest and if I wanna stay sane it has to stay cooler than 72

I like fruiting in cooler temps. My temps on my current grow have stayed in the 60-72f range.
You tend to get denser fruits in cooler temps.
Your temps are fine man

these are golden teacher, btw

my buddy says it's a weak strain?

he says a typical dose is 5-7g

seems contrary to most of the wisdom I've read

Terence Mckenna says 5g is a heroic dose.

Either my shrooms are weak or he wasn't eating cubensis.

This originates from a multispore inoculation...could that be the reason why?

Golden teacher isnt "bunk". Please dont open that can of worms lol.

I mean, sure its possible that ms is to blame because of the wide range of genetics.

And doseage depends on the individual. My regular dose is 5-6g of cubes and that leaves me with a pretty wild ride. I'd recommend for a noobie 2 grams.
I used to advocate for no less than a 8th, but several months ago I gave some buddies that haven't tripped in 10+ years like 3.8g and they had a bad trip.

I'm not completely sold as of now your shrooms are bunk, and neither should you.

I thought I had some bunk shrooms my first grow after eating 2 grams,  an hour in just kinda felt weird.

Kept eating 2 grams here and there,  10 grams and 2 hours later it hit me HARD

2.5 is a low dose. If your shrooms are not that potent (and it seems like they aren't), you need at least 6-7 grams dry. At least. Remember that there is no OD danger with mushrooms. Caffeine is 50% more toxic than psilocybin.

I always eat at least 5 -10 grams of cubes (3.5-6 of pans), depending on the strain I am dealing with (oh and btw a strain is not that label you find on a print. GT, Orissa, Transkei, that stuff doesn't mean anything).

Also, did you take them on an empty stomach? How many hours since your last meal?

Considering the low dose you've taken, this could be the culprit. Always take them on a totally empty stomach. Do not eat for an hour or so after you've taken them if you want max potency.

Alright, so I'll chop up 5g, and add that to boiling water for about 20 minutes, then strain.

EDIT: there's really only 2 foods I don't like...mushrooms, and fish/seafood!

20 mins is way too much. Just add your shrooms to boiling water (not much, just half a cup) and let it boil for 3-5 mins. Strain and squeeze the shrooms. Then take another half cup of water and repeat the process. You can do this as many times as you like, but usually after 2 or 3 times you already got all you need.

Oh and then you can add your favorite tea and some lemon and sugar, if you want.

usually the more solvent used the better the extraction

also...ever try "lemon tek" ?

Oh bummer...my next monotub has contaminated. So bad that if I open it, I might die.

Oh well.

I think I'm going to learn agar from a multispore syringe, that will allow me to preserve mycelium for a lot longer, while i perfect my rye grain and monotub teks, and get better with sterile technique....also I think I'm going to pasteurize my coir at a specific temperature from now on rather than using the "elementary coir tek"

or maybe I should just give up and go back to growing green.

Just use the water needed to cover the mushrooms. You don't need more than that.

Lemon or not lemon, it all comes down to this:

1) dosage. you gotta eat enough if you want to trip
2) strain potency (almost exclusively dependent on genetics, so it's out of your control)
3) empty stomach for at least 4-6 hours

So, I tried out 5g of tea, then dosed 3g in applesauce an hour later. then ate 2.5g by itself at 2 hours in, and I barely got anything.

Slight visual acuity and slight pupil dilation.

I think I'd have to eat an ounce of those things..

I have no idea what's going on there. Some people say that sometimes you get a bunk batch, but it never happened to me. And I mean never in more than 6 years. If it's dry weight and you didn't eat anything for at least 4 hours, then it's just bad luck I guess

I've never witnessed, known or heard of anyone who barely felt 10g cracker dry cubes no matter how weak the cubes were

But there is quite a few of those "I didnt feel any effect of my cubes" threads,
