Elf Tek Q?
    #2179181 - 12/15/03 09:57 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

This weekend i tried the elf extraction on some mimose rootbark. And i think i did a good job or at least i hope so  :smirk:.

Only when i evaporate the solvant nice cristals do form but there are some spots that are very fatty.... and i still have 1 vaporization left. Now is it ok to disolve the left overs again and try to sink out the last fat or will this harm the spice

TIA

Heres a phote of the first evaporation not really a good one but hey its a cam.

it's hard to tell what exactly i'm looking at, but if you think it's fatty scape it all up again and put it back into solution and try to get rid of any more fat and then recrystalize... if it's not extra plant fats it could be left over solvent, not completely dried or left a residue.. hard to tell from the pic.

Thanks

I used brakecleaning fluid as a solvant and the test batch dried up without leaving any residu. But still if it'd be left overs these would be very harmfull i suppose??

But i stil think its fat cauze the solvent dried away in 30 mins and its standing for a whole day now. I'll try to disolve everything again and hope to get a better pic.

brake cleaning fluid? What is in it? I'd assume more than just one reagent.

The bottle doesn't say which ones just that its a mixture of solvents specially for defatting. A friend who does a chemic education advised to use it.

I returned everything to the solvent and it went yellow but there is some fat dropping to the bottem so i hope it's just that!!

It's usually Xylene, Acetone, Propane, and misc organic solvents I think.

I think i know what the problem was. There was too much solvent and just al little bit of fat so maybe it was completly disolved. Luckily i checked during the evaporation en saw a thick bal of fat forming which was now very easy to remove.

Put on the fan again and woke up this morning to c some nice cristals forming again. Hope to have a good pic by tonight (cet ^^).

I do am a bit worried about the break cleaner so i might disolve it again in some heated alchol.

Can't wait
