Is there a good determining factor when you should do the bottom-water?
Just want to make sure potential is being reached. <grin>
*edit* Lemme add some pictures
[Thai Super Strain]

(phone is reflecting red, not some unnameable contamination hehe) [TSS]

In both cases the substrate is being pushed and twisted away from the bottom of the jars. Obviously, the mass is being transferred into the fruit, but does having more moisture mid-way on the first flush do more harm than good?
At first glance I was like, wtf, pickled cow eye strain?

Haven't updated in a bit. All are multispore. Temps 66-69 F. Knocked up on 3/22-3/23. Standard PF Tek mix fit into four containers. So 1.25 cakes in each cup. 1 cake I shook. the other three I let colonize as is. the shaken one has been harvested today. The other 3... 2 are knotting on is at 95% colonized.

Here's the one I shook when it was 30% colonized. Dunked and threw some verm in. I'm pleased.

Aloha, Anyone ever tried filling these 32 oz ziplocs a 1/4 of the way with pasteurized bulk substrate and then innoculating with g2g?
How would you utilize a SAB for this to minimize contamination? Oven pasteurize bulk sub and put in SAB while still hot.. and then using latex gloves fill ziplocs.. close it up. Wait for temp to cool and then inoculate with G2G?
I love this tek for the built in fruiting chamber but I can only fit 3 of these in my pc

Is it colonized, or is it still colonizing? Don't open it before it's done colonizing.

Hello shroomery! I have been trying to find a simple, stealthy means of cultivation requiring minimal equipment ever since I screwed up my first grow a few years ago. I came across this tek a few days ago and I think I found exactly what I was looking for.
Violet did a fantastic job of describing everything succinctly but I still have a few questions for anybody who would like to help clarify things.
1. Do you think I'd be ok just boiling my verm-brf substrate for 90 minutes or could I safely boil longer (say 2.5hrs?) just in case?
2. I'm a little worried about inoculation sterility and I don't have room in my space for a large glove box sitting around. I noticed some people use high-temp resistant caulking on top of mason jars and I was wondering if something like that would work with ziploc jars. ie. drill a few 1/4" holes in the top and caulk them, sterilize with substrate in jar, then inoculate through caulking using flame & alcohol wipe before each squirt. Seems like it would eliminate the opening of the jar, which is the scariest part. Would this work?
3. How much could I benefit from adding a thin casing layer during consolidation? And if so, what other adjustments would I need to make to Violets tek to ensure proper moisture & air exchange? (that might be a good question for you, Violet, if you happen to see this and have the energy..)
4. (just in case..) Does anybody happen to know of the perfect size pressure cooker to fit 3-4 1qt ziploc jars in a circular arrangement?
I am looking forward to a successful cultivation, thank you for all your help thus far!

1. You could probably get away with steaming/boiling them. Pc's work better though.
2. Adding SHIP's would work too. Just make sure to flame your needle and squirt a drop out to cool it off. GE sells silicone that works great for SHIPs. Auto RTV works well too.
3. Casing will help keep moisture in the sub for the fruits, and will help pins form from the top instead of the sides. This one was uncased
It still produced well
I bottom water mine a little when the pins get to about an inch.
4. A 16 qt. or larger should hold four.

This looks like one of the best and most eye opening tek I've seen since I started growing.
Your work is insanely awesome. I'm gonna start a project with this tek asap.

I'm using this method and I have 4 jars that have been in fruiting for a bit over a week, how long does it take for pins to form? M worried about Fae, did anyone take the lids off and fan? How long after fruiting did it take for pins to form for those who've used this method?

I just plopped the lids on and let em' do their thing. You can mist lightly once a day if needed. If it's drying out to quick just screw the lid on a bit more.
It can take 2 weeks to see pins. They'll come. Mine were 1.5-2 weeks and the subsequent flushes have been about a week apart. Truthfully, they come when they come. Some are fast, some are slow.
when your mushies are at about this size or maybe a little bigger your brf or whole grain cake will start to shrink away from the side of the container pretty quickly. You can add a bit of water about halfway up the cake. You should see the water level get lower over the next 24-48 hrs and your mushies will get bigger.
