LSDreamer that was a 10/10 post would read again and refer others with similar problems to read it in the future. I truly appreciate the time it took you to write that out. +5:mushroomgrow:

Welp it's about to be first 24 hours into being sober for the first time in a year and a half or more. I used to smoke ganja everyday as a passtime and now my day feels incomplete. The main reason for going sober is to get myself a job or rather to pass that stinkin' drug test which I'm not even sure how fucked I am because I have no clean piss and they might even test me tomorrow. Which I'll surely come out positive.

But another thing that's kept me thinking is what's keeping the sober person from blazing it up? I just don't see how they could possibly be content with their time. But they're probably so used to being sober that they don't even see it that way. Maybe I'm just a high fool, but I see most things as futile, like going to doctors if there's nothing wrong or worrying about what to wear or anything like that ya know? What kinds of things do people enjoy doing sober? I honestly wish I was smoking a bowl right now, in fact I've been thinking more about taking a drag than sex today. The ratio of herb to sex thoughts in my brain are at 7:3 if that makes any kind of sense to you.

I'm glad I have yet to come in contact with heroin or have had the urge to want to try it. Until I'm already on my death bed or in my 60's-70's. I feel as if heroin would consume my life. I'm already extremely apathetic so heroin would definitely be a new kind of heaven and hell for me.

Well, to see how I reached my opinion of you one needs only to refer to your original post.  Lets see:

1)  Unemployed. I would guess that's been a long-term thing, meaning you're mooching off family and/or one or more government "entitlements."
2)  Stoned EVERY day.
3)  Applied for a job that requires drug testing, but lacked the desire and/or willpower to abstain.
4) Can't even envision the myriad of activities of life apart from getting/being stoned.
5) Would chose getting stoned over a meaningful, loving encounter with another human.
6) Honestly worried that you have such weak willpower that you couldn't resist the temptation of heroin.

Yeah, you're a catch alright.

Happy to help where I can. Don't let people get you down about your situation, like that guy ^ who seems to think shame is an effective way to motivate change. It isn't. You do need to want to change your situation for it to change, but beating yourself up about it isn't going to help.

I'm just going off the research that's been done in motivating people. Shame just doesn't seem to work. In addiction in particular.

I retired after spending many years of my medical career in a surgical specialty where people ate and/or smoked themselves into the need for surgery.  For years in advance of performing the penultimate revascularization or amputation, I warned patients that they could either be a two-legged non-smoker or a one-legged (or no-legged!) smoker.

Sadly, I was never at a loss for business.  What does THAT tell you about human nature and addiction?  What it tells me I've already written.  People just are unwilling or unable to see the truth of their situation, and the harshest truths told to them BLUNTLY and in good faith don't always change behavior.

In some small percentage of cases (and I hope with all my hearty the OP is one of them) bluntly telling them the path they are on is taking them to a bad place DOES succeed in waking them up to the reality of their situation.

Not all harsh words are intended to hurt.  Sometimes there is a good outcome.

It tells me surgeons aren't trained therapist's capable of helping people reevaluate their maladaptive (short term) coping mechanisms.

UncleFester, exercise is good.  Burns a lot of energy and helps regulate reward systems in the brain (i.e. runner's high).  Helped me a lot when I quit smoking.

This time of year I like to go mushroom hunting too   Just edibles, no actives grow here.

Ugh..
1)You don't even know how old I am. I'm unemployed because I couldn't find a good job but I was still paying for bills and helping out with money that I had to pull out of my ass (in a matter speaking).

2):burn:

3)Do you really think I can just extract all the THC out of my body in 2 days? No sad to say, I had to cheat to pass but fuck it, it's just weed am I right? I wasn't lacking will power because I took a least day off of it because I wanted to see what being sober would feel like to me and I smoked a bowl the next day because I already realized there's no point in quitting cold turkey if I was going to have to cheat anyways.

4) I've done other things when I'm not stoned like side jobs and other activities. But that's something off of my personal time. I enjoy being stoned a lot so why can't I have my fun at home?

5)Where the fuck did you even pull that one from? Dude you don't even know if I'm a virgin or not so wtf? Although, I'm not a virgin if it matters to you.

6)I've never met someone who's tried heroin and been like "Hmm that was ok but I'm not going to do it again" Heroin is addicting and I say I wouldn't want to try it because I'm scared of becoming addicted to it. With my history of depression, I feel as if it would ruin my life. So it's not that I don't have willpower it's just that I don't want to try it.

Stop speaking out of your ass and read my thread. Don't just skim through it..

My reading comprehension is excellent, and my list is merely distilled from your own words, which I quoted for you since I suspected you would be too lazy to go back and re-read, or attempt to deny.  Every item on that list was simply taken from your own words...albeit made more articulate.

In fact, your response above is what makes no sense.  Where did you get the whole "virgin" thing.  You wrote (more or less) that given a choice between smoking a bowl and getting laid, you would chose to smoke.  Evidently you are too stoned even now to make sense out of your own words.  Put the bowl down, look in the mirror and see yourself as others see you.

Where are you getting this from? Can you please quote me? I would definitely choose sex over a toke any day of the year.. In fact I've said the other day to a friend of mine that if I had a girlfriend I probably wouldn't smoke so much as I would want to take her out to dinner/movies/etc.

Out of all those bullets you made this is the only one you can come back to me about? It's in my opinion the least important and the most irrelevant.

I haven't smoked in 2 days, and you're just being so rude... Why would you even reply if you don't have anything nice to say man. Sure you may have a much better vocabulary than I do but you're just bragging and being a smart ass about it.
Dude put down the mirrors and let some air out of that ego.

If you're really that interested in arguing with me over the Internet I suggest a new hobby. If not just try to be nice person because going back and forward with you all day isn't something I find amusing.

More or less is bullshit man. You missunderstood what I said. Sex and sex thoughts aren't the same. And it's my first time not smoking in about 3 years so could you really blame me if I'm thinking of my herb of choice more than sex? Especially on the day that I gave it up.

Peace.

Congrats on the job, I hope that you succeed. As far as Nature Boy goes you have to look at him like he is Spock from Star Trek. He doesn't have bad

intentions he is just giving his 2 cents in a very truthful manner, which can also comes off as harsh.

Thanks for the kind words bro

I know he's trying help which is why I don't want to insult him, but it's just coming off as an unpleasant conversation and he's just calling me out on things I said (more or less)  without really understanding 100% and not only that but making loosely based assumptions of what my life is like. I don't mean to go off on the guy, but I just don't like having someone telling me I'm probably mooching off the government or my family or that I have no will power and need to look in the mirror and realize how much of a fuck up I am. That's just not how you talk to people.

Nature boy, no offense but your egotistical nature not only is decreasing my level of respect for you, but it embarrasses psychedelic users who are supposed to be free of ego or at least not holier than thou type people. I'm that close to giving you a zero shroom rating truthfully..

And yes, I mention NB's ego because that's what this is all about, his comments aren't meant to help anyone in the first place but to inflate himself because he likes hearing himself talk

Other than that, I do really enjoy reading his intelligent posts

I like hearing myself talk too.  Just prefer that I hear nice things come out of my mouth!

Seriously Nature Boy, I think you are trying to help but you can't do any good once someone's defenses are up.  Have to try a more delicate and supportive approach.

Also I don't see UncleFester the way you do.  I smoke pot everyday and don't see anything wrong with it.  I think you jumped to a lot of conclusions about someone based on a few paragraphs they wrote and I don't think that's really fair.

UncleFester asked for some ideas on things to do other than smoke weed.  Their reasons for doing this are their own and I know giving up any of our favorite things even for a short amount of time can be hard.  They didn't ask to be beat in the head with the shame stick and told what a terrible unproductive member of society they are because they smoke weed and weren't working.

A little kindness goes a long way.  Try it sometime!  You may be surprised :mushroom2:

So I'm sober now. And it took a long time to get used to it I'm the last person anyone thought would get sober. Anyway. I am pretty in to being a dad, gardening, eating dank ass food, cooking, and I have gotten into vaping too. I can't even smoke weed anymore. Freaks my shit out. Drugs don't even appeal to me anymore. I eat kratom still on very rare occasions but that's it. Never recreationally only for pain. To be honest. I can't say I am happier but I feel more stable and healthy and sane, happiness comes in waves. I'm not unhappy though. Perhaps it's just a different kind of happiness. Paranoia and drug induced psychosis ruined me. And while I may not be having as much instant gratification, I am present in areas of my life that were always more important but that I never appreciated. And I guess that is something that I am not willing to give up.  I do miss the taste of wax though lol
