Oat grain - is this jar ready to spawn?
    #21789411 - 06/10/15 05:31 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Does it get any better or is this just what 100% collonised oat grains looks like?

Jar is 2 weeks old

Edit:
Same jar, better lightning:

That doesn't look near enough to be ready to me but I've never used oats before

Let it go a few more days- Ima say you shook that jar a few days ago at about 10% colonization. Should be pretty much completely white when it's 100%, assuming that (wild guess) you're growing P. cubensis.

Oats?!!! What are you, in Scotland?

Jar says: Mc - LC ( Mckinney - Liquid culture)
The LC was made out of a homemade sporeprint :-)

Wrong. It has yeast infection. LC should colonize in 5-7 days. Two weeks is way too long.

OP, when you decide to toss the jar or spawn it, i promise a fine smokey looking powder will come out into the air

I hope thats not true....
I have just put 6 PF cakes made from the same LC to dunk, they smelled so fresh and nice and two of the jars had already made one and two side pins in the  1/2-pint jar....
On that background my thinking is that the LC must be pretty clean!?

It is hard to take a god picture, but I think that in this one taken in the closet where the jar lives, you can see some rhizomorph mycelium in the top....

I am not trying to argue here, if it is yeast then it is yeast, but knowing that your judgment can only be as god as is my pictures I would like to ask if you still think it is yeast?

Doesn't really look like yeast to me. You could probably user it now but I would give it a day or 3.

Honestly i can't say for sure if it looks like yeast. Upon zooming in the pic loses focus.
But i can say that a 2 week old quart jar that was fucked with an LC should be densely colonized, loaded with bacteria, or nicely colonized with mold. The only other option is yeast. If that jar was 4 or 5 days old it would look normal.
Again, pictures hide shit. Maybe it's fine. My experience tells me otherwise.

I still think the first pic looks bad. Use it if you want, but if it contaminates I'd blame the jars first picture. I'd also think about doing agar > lc next time

I agree it's pretty wispy and there's lots of wet looking grains. Oats for me looks very different.

I agree with someone earlier. Animal feed like bird seed and oats needs a MINIMUM 2 hour pressure cook cycle for the bacterial endospores.

I guess only time can tell, and it will tell....
I have 8 more jars just like that and I am not gonna toss em

By the way; Half of the jars are inoculated with agar, they were a little behind to start with do to only one inoculation point (I think).

The reason for also using LC, given the fact that I had agar is that at the time I started Isolating on agar I did not know that I should have starte with a clone.
My isolating was started from my MS LC.
At the T2 state I was taught that my isolating would be in great risk of ending op with a poor fruiting strain, så I stopped  my agar project immediately and inoculated half of the jars with the T2 agar and to widen the genetic pool I used the LC for the rest of my jars.

I'd much rather do lcs over g2g. At least you can test how clean lcs are on agar plates. It's a lot easier to fuck up a g2g. Speaking from experience. So tired of them hidden contaminations.

Even having a smallish sab fucks g2gs. Lots of us had to get new boxes for g2gs because the jars move air around so much
