Hi to all and need to ID some cacti through photos.

Hi , hope this is OK in this section , the forum is quite large and a bit overwhelming from a beginner point.
I live in a highly vegetated area and cacti are quite common here even edible types (dragon fruit).
Recently I have noticed this similar kind more often. The one in the first photo is in a friends apartment area. The other larger is growing on the edge of a farm.
The smaller one has no needles , I thought the apartment owner had removed them out of safety. But the large one looks to have none either.

The large one is one cactus the middle is about 12 foot high.

By the way , I am a fan of Carlos Castaneda books since the early 90's but it just occurred to me that I possibly have mescal containing cacti in my area. I hope I am right.
Thanks Shroomery & peace to all.

Nothing to apologize about. It's a beautiful plant and you can get some fruits from it after it flowers.

It is a cereus. I am sorry you are a fan of Carlos Castaneda. That guy was a liar and probably the worst example of an anthropologist.

I believe there is more to it than the media made it out to be and question everything twice and three times especially with someone who had such a power over society , I think that they couldn't wait to find a way to destroy him , they tried hard and found a way in his old age , easier to kick a man when his down. Don't tell me you believe the US/UK media is a good source to the truth. His later materials most likely were flawed & not the real deal & I am only interested in his work up to 1984 which I believe are real for certain reasons one of them being that me and a very good friend while I was living in Europe had experimented after being skeptical with some of the crazy sounding passages in his book "The Eagles Gift" (which is one of his last "real" books) and after several months of trying the exercise (not sure weather that's a fitting term) we found that it was 100% real and a true mind blowing experience.
Its just too easy to brand the guy a liar and not read any of his material ,that is your loss , I believe he had no choice after the mid 80's , his career had already reached close to 30 decades and under pressure , weather financial or through publishing contracts he had to keep writing regardless to whether it was coming from real or fictional source.
So no chance of mescal in these at all? Oh well the hunt is on then...
Thank you guys!!!

Hey guys , I went to my local home depot and found a bunch of cacti for sale , also saw some huge ones that looked exactly like the ones in my photos but with thorns /prickles and more pale green. Someone has been growing them in front of their tiny house and the cacti look bigger than the house its pretty interesting. I will post up photos later.
Would those be the right kind , they look almost identical but have the prickles...

Yes, ive got the eagles gift. I also once fell for the lies. Carlos castaneda was proven to be a fraud. His works were embellished so that he could maintain the lavish lifestyle he enjoyed. Of course anyone can trash the media...seems like the popular thing to do. Unfortunately the media doesnt only cover bullshit...they give us REAL news too.
Also Mescal is produced from agave. Not sure exactly which species. Mescal is like tequila.
Mescaline on the other hand is an alkoloid in certain cacti.

Just gonna say that I hope you'll man up and go buy your own, or at least ask the owner's permission before you take any.
As far as ID's go, if you can't tell the difference then you're obviously not trying very hard and wouldn't have the patience to grow it on your own so you're obviously just trying to poach someone else's shit, grow up.

Wo , hold your horses man , I just said I went into a home depot , I wont destroy these peoples cactus , they are some poor locals , I think they are really proud of these cacti and its quite cool. When I grew up as a young kid in the 80's my family were florist suppliers and growers of all these plants I grew up looking at botanical books and exotic fruits etc. I have a child of my own , I'm not some kid who would sniff bug spray desperate for a high or something , I am also a musician and have a lack of inspiration recently... I don't know how to multi quote but , thank you for the correction kosmokratorshaman for the mescal thing ...

It's ok buddy. A lot of the new guys may jump to conclusions if you don't out right say what your intentions are. You're a musician and mescaline may be the perfect companion. I've only eaten cactus once and it was amazing to say the least but it lasted too long and the anxiety got to me.

Mescal is nothing like tequila bro. Mescal imo sucks ass. And good tequila is like a fine wine but be ready to pay. Mescal come from Agave americana

I don't drink. I just know they are produced very similarly.

From my understanding, Tequila is a particular variety of Mescal, just like Scotch and Bourbon are whiskies. That said, yes, general opinions on mescal are low, however a local cocktail bar just had a Mescal tasting that I missed, there is seems to be a rising interest in higher quality, craft Mescal. Good tequila is hard to beat, but yeah, you definitely pay for it.

Ok I'm glad to hear you're not going to jack their plants. I think mescaline is great for musicians, try listening to a song you've heard a million times and close your eyes and the mescaline adds new parts to the songs and you can see the music too, it's amazing.
So then, why exactly did you need to ID your neighbors plants? The Home Depot cacti all have labels on them that say exactly what they are. If it says Trichocereus Pachanoi then it's what you're after.

Yes I miss those days when me and my drummer would hit a good joint and jam away for hours. He recorded it on cassette and I have it somewhere on disc , 100% improvised on just weed...
Unfortunately I live in a country where I cant read the lingo , also when I got the staff to read it for me the names are in that language.
Here are some photos.

Crappy photos I know ... didn't want to look suspicious and just snapped in a hurry.
I think the cactus house looks amazing I will try and photograph it today , if it is the right kind I maybe try and ask the owner to give me or sell me some samples so I can grow it...
In fact I wont be consuming this , I just want to find the right type just for growing at home.

Looks like a San Pedro (pachanoi) on the very upper right corner of the second picture, behind the grafted cactus.
It's hard to tell but one of the ones in the middle looks a lot like a peyote (lophophora williamsii).
I agree with spaceman, there are some very nice specimens there.

I'm not sure on the peyote plant, it's hard to tell from your picture. One easy way to tell in person or from a better picture though is "does it have spines?" If it has spines then it's not a peyote, it's something else. In the picture I can't tell if they are spines or just white areoles.
I also circled what I believe to be a legitimate Trichocereus Pachanoi aka San Pedro in the very upper right. Once again though, it's not the best picture so I can't say 100% but I'm pretty confident in that ID. You might try typing whatever they wrote on it into your smartphone and doing a translation to see what they're calling it.
edit: in case you didn't know, you have to click on my picture to zoom in

Trich is probably a pachanoi the other one is not a peyote. Is probably a Gymnocalycium bueneckeri/ horstii
