PC Gasket Removal

So I picked up this old Presto 7B on ebay and the gasket is trashed. I can't pull it out, its too brittle, breaks apart. Ideas on how to safely scrape out the old gasket material around the inside of the lid? Any products that can help in that total removal process?

It should just pull out, doesn't matter if it comes out in pieces as you're gonna have to replace it.
If you can't get it all start looking for products that dissolve rubber, I'm sure there are some.

Mineral oil, silicone, pb blaster. Heavy duty solvents might break it up.

after you get 99.9% of the old gasket out you might want to buy some 400grit wet or dry sandpaper and using water or mineral oil polish it up a bit and then finish it up with at least 600grit or more.

I'd use a wire brush on a drill to remove it and take things down to the polished metal surface. Wear eye protection. No need to mess around with half-assed rinky-dink solutions. Get it out quick and dirty so you can replace it.

yes because having soft aluminium(old presto) gouged up on the pressure seal is brilliant
when I clean my grill I do that.

There are differing grades of wire brushes that won't gouge the metal. A 1" crimped wire wheel brush with a 1/2" face is a light polishing brush. It will remove the brittle gasket without doing any damage to the seal surface the way that a twisted or knot wire brush would.

I wouldn't even use a brass crimped brush on the aluminum seal.
