Ok so I think the vocals are an acquired taste. I really enjoy the crushing sound of the guitar but can't get into the vocals. Can any of you show me some of the best the genre has to offer? Btw I can somewhat enjoy the dirtier side of the vocals on sludge/doom tracks. Thanks!

That's some good stuff. I like the vocals more than stuff with shrieks in it.

Here my friend , this band used to get us pretty pumped back in my teenage days , this particular album I have a story about...
Well , Michael was a skate/punk drummer into bands like Bad Religion Fugazi No FX and such... He was pretty pretty rude and disrespectful when it came to especially Death Metal which was the genre of music I was into most at the time and I was a lead guitarist and vocalist (front-man) for a Death Metal band that was active during the early nineties also.
So my house mate Rick at the time had bought some big ass Sony Hi-Fi system with woofers and multiple disc changer and the thing had some really good sound and was pretty colorful looking and pretty large lol early 90s stlyle.
So one day Rick tells me Mick has a couple of trips , and asks if want one and I say hell yeah I want one. Brings them over to the apartment and we drop the paper , I think Rick got called to go out by his girlfriend.
And me and Mick said we will go down to the pub later ,
I pull out a CD and I say "I wan't to show you why I love Death Metal" before we go down to the local pub. We stick the disc in and sit on the floor right in front of the Sony and its like a couple of feet above our heads. By this time the LS* had started working and it was perfect timing , I showed him every song on this album air drumming every drum roll as I always do (Mike Smith's drumming seems to make me fidget) I used to get kicked out of class for air drumming hehe... Anyway Mick and I got lost in this album and listened to it from track #1 to the very end and when it ended it was like we woke back out of the abyss and realm that this record forms and we had hardly moved an inch and stared at the player lights , he understood why this shit is the most powerful form of face melting music that exists and the amount of artistic passion that goes into 4 guys our age that created it at the time. Endless classic
Mick never said anything bad about Death metal after that day , he probably never will ...
Listen to this album (headphones or good quality speakers) after a joint or acid and you will feel it too I guarantee it , especially the drumming which was the first of its kind , Mike Smith invented the "bomb blast beat" and was the first guy to play anally precise like a jazz musician... many bands followed and still are trying to , Suicide Silence came very close production wise but never had the creativity like Suffocation did on this album.
Anyway the masterpiece I speak of , enjoy
The album gives me a similar feeling feeling like when I watch a good MMA fighter in the peak of the fight (just before the KO) but this album is like that for about 40 min
There is no more intense music form ,physically and mentally , its the ultimate expression of violence and anger in a form of music.

Intense, beautiful. I really get what you are saying. Amazing story too, thanks for sharing, gave me some insight of what I was about to get into. It's some empowering music for sure!

Philosopher Stoned - Yes, Suffocation! Glad you like it TheShroomingAthies. I saw them live just a month ago here in Melbourne. Pierced from Within is a good album by them as well.
Here is Decapitated, and my favourite song by them, Post Organic. I also saw them live, they were touring with Suffo! Not as good live that night as Suffo but this album is really amazing.
