agar contamination?
    #21786865 - 06/10/15 03:59 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

hi guys,  this is my first post and attempt at cloning the psilocybe weraroa (nz species) . i took all the precautions i could in terms of steralization and working under flow hood. my question is , does mycelium start of looking like that under the tissue before is turns into the puff ball or has it been contaminated. much thanks

Not familiar with that type of myc, but the slimy mucosy look is bacteria on the plate

Actually I didn't know that this was a clone I didn't read that haha it was early

Did you take tissue from the inside of the mushroom? Did you tear it open instead of cutting with scalpel?

Im not sure if that white circle is myc or mold, is there a piece of tissue under that? If it is mold on the plate and you manage to get some growth you think you can salvage you will want to use a SAB for this one becausr the flow hood will blow the spores around.

If that is your tissue in the middle of the bacteria you might have to take another clone, it looks doubtfull you will be able to isolate clean growth since any myc will have to grow right over that bacteria

Oh absolutely! Although your culture is covered with bacteria, not mold.

Bacteria looks like someone blew thier nose on your plate haha. Slime right on the surface, usually mucus yellow or brown/green.

Mold on the other hand, much harder to spot and can very easily hide in your culture. Its why its a good idea to take a few transfers before you put to grain.

Mold rarely goes green on a plate, usually takes the form of tiny white "colonies" just outside your culture. Looks like myc sometimes IME but you can tell its mold if it isnt part of your culture

Cloning wild fruits is difficult and will require some real technique. You might want to incorporate an antibiotic or at least research the agar sandwich method. Good luck
