My first monotub is colonizing nicely - a couple questions

Hey guys,
A couple of days ago I set up my first monotub, using coir/verm as a substrate (with thin casing layer), and mycelium that I had grown in rye grain jars. I have peeked at my monotub a couple of times, and colonization seems to be progressing nicely. Very roughly, I'd say ~20% or so of the top looks colonized. I have a piece of aluminum foil on top as well.
I've been doing some reading and I've seen a variety of answers to the questions I have. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask even though I'm certainly not the first to do so. My questions are:
1.) Do most people wait until 100% colonization to move to fruiting? By 100% colonization, I simply mean that the top layer of my substrate appears fully colonized. If the answer to this is definitely yes, should I wait for some amount of time after 100% colonization for things to 'consolidate' before moving to fruiting conditions?
2.) For fruiting conditions, should I simply be introducing the monotub to a 12:12 light/dark cycle, with sufficient FAE? Right now my monotub is mostly in darkness. For fruiting, I plan to turn on a 6000K LED I have for 12 hours per day, in addition to uncovering the holes in my tub that I have, which are covered in a breathable, hydrophobic cloth.
Thanks!

I'd lose the foil as it's really not necessary and could possibly get digested by the mycelium and end up in your fruits.
1) casing layer doesn't need to be 100% colonized. I don't case so wait for someone else to chime in 2) to fruit, untape your holes and stuff with polyfill. Tight on the lowers, loose on the uppers. 12/12 lighting seems to work well. I've read from RR's posts that led's aren't optimal. I use fluorescent. You'll be fine though. Light during colonization isn't a bad thing, by the way.

That aluminum in the fruits is a myth and scientific evidence showed that it did not carry through a significant amount in the fruits. I saw this stated in another thread but I do not have a link to it.

Thanks guys!
There does not seem to be a clear consensus on when to move to fruiting conditions in terms of percent colonization. It seems like a soft majority of people wait for 100% colonization, while others start fruiting before that. Can someone give me reasons for and against fruiting once I get to 100%? and does 100% typically mean that the top of my tub looks fully colonized, or should I wait a couple days after that before fruiting?

It's also not clear to me what the timeline is from the onset of fruiting conditions to mature fruits. How long does this normally take? Most mushrooms I observe in the wild will make fruits that wither away within a day, but I get the impression that the process of going from pins to mature fruits with these guys (I'm using B+) takes a few days.

yea it takes a few days to see mature fruits. i read that you dont need a casing or top layer when growing cubes...its not beneficial as you might think.

I call bullshit & bad info...
I ALWAYS leave them covered until I put them into fruiting. This helps keep the moisture in and the nasties out.
Besides... you don't want to give them FAE until you are ready to fruit.

Yup... usually a few days on the fruits.
As far as casings go, no you don't have to have one. Though some varieties may fruit better with one. Such as Penis Envy.
Also, a casing can be extremely beneficial under the right circumstances. Where I live it is dry as fuck and when I don't use a casing layer I get a shitty pin set & my yields suffer terribly.
Though casing cubes is generally looked at as optional, you may want to re-read up on some of the info. There are different variables that help determine whether your grow can benefit using a casing layer or not...climate, environment and variety being some of them...

Thanks for the tips. I was a little confused about the anti-aluminum foil statements, since it would certainly provide a barrier to help keep moisture in and contaminants out. Plus it seems implausible that the mycelium would digest the foil given their immersion in a suitable substrate. In any case, I already removed the foil, but I think my colonization is mature enough for me to worry too much. I will hopefully move things into fruiting within a few days. I also have an outdoor manure/compost grow that seems to be going nicely that I will share with the community soon.
