How do I properly pasteurize multiple bricks of coir?
    #21785346 - 06/09/15 07:56 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I need to pasteurize four bricks of coir, preferably all at once. I could simply do Damion5050's coir tek x 4 but that would take forever and isn't real pasteurization- my grows always seem to contam after the first flush.

How do I do this shit right, and repeating as few steps as possible?

I know there are still some that would disagree but I think its pretty accepted now that coir really just needs heat treatment. I would think your contamination is being caused by something else

When I do pasturize it proper I do either in mason jars or spawn bags in a pot on the stove. Its pretty time consuming.

Right now Ill set up like 4 or 5 buckets with either 1 or 2 bricks in each. I find it hard to stir 2 bricks in one bucket so I usually just do 1 per bucket, and just add boiling water. The buckets are cheap and you can get many tubs worth of coir at once this way

If Im adding something like straw into my coir, I pasturize that proerly and seperatly and mix it into my bucket tek coir.

I don't even use a bucket anymore. I "bucket tek" right in the tub I plan to spawn in. Can't really do it this way if you use a liner though.

Get a large cooler or use 2 large totes, think 55 gallon.

Follow Muda's tek https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19907089/fpart/1/vc/1

Adjust amount of ingredients accordingly.

Buckets are out at that kind of volume. Get a giant ass ice chest / beer cooler and pasteurize using 185 degree water. The temp will drop on contact with the dry ingredients and hold temperature for at least an hour giving you a solid pasteurization temp.

Look up mudafuka's proper bucket pasteurization in my sig for more info.

Break up the bricks as much as reasonably possible.

Take into account the more mass you successfully heat the easier the thermal mass will maintain temp.

Is: a single cup of coffee cools off a lot faster than a full pot.

So maybe a solid 180 would be fine?

No clue lol. I know in an uninsulated bucket I can do 170f with 2 bricks and it stays within limits easily.

I have no advice for doing 1 or more than two
