Yeah. I'm always trying to better myself and make changes. I'm completely different than I was 10 years ago. I didn't do it over night. I did little things everyday until I noticed a change, then started doing more and more to keep making my life more pleasant

I'd say this. Quitting hard drugs will do wonders for your physical and mental health.

I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Not in florida.
White kid I was locked up with did 60 days for minor possession, and all he got caught with was the blunt he was smoking.
Supposedly though, I know that was his charge though because there's a little kiosk thing and if you look like a chomo (he did) people will make you show them your charge or they beat your ass anyways.

I've turned my life around in every way inagineable. Three years ago I was a hopeless drug addict facing serious jail time. Today I'm engaged to the love of my life, have a great relationship with my family, and I'll graduate with honors from college next Spring. My current G.P.A is 3.9.
I've tried to earn my degree three times prior to this but drugs got in the way. It took a run in with the police to finally turn my life around. It's amazing how my priorities completely changed once I stopped getting high everyday. If I can do it anyone can because I was pretty damn bad. I will say that I couldn't have done it without my family. They supported me financially and helped me get my feet on the ground that first year.

Black people are 32 percent of prison inmates in florida but are about 15 percent of the population. The idea you are treated the same is ridiculous.

Well A friend got deported and died, I did 5 years of probation and started going to school. That showed the judge that I was serious about turning my life around so she dropped all charges and about 5,000$ in reparations. Quote:

I fucking hate when people throw these bullshit statistics around. Did ya ever think that maybe the percentage of people in jail is equal to the percentage of people who did the crime?? There is obviously a disproportionate # of blacks that do the crime in the first place in some jurisdictions. I was arrested for DUI in Baltimore and can tell you without a doubt....I was treated worse than the black street dealers were...both in sentencing and in bail amount..,..It's pretty much reverse discrimination in Baltimore and anyone that says otherwise obviously hasn't been there!

Getting back to the theme of this thread.....Yes, I did 16 yrs. ago going from a hopeless drunk/ addict to a person with some dignity, a house on the water, a business, and a incredible love of my life. I did this with the 12 steps of AA and will be forever grateful.
The way I lived, had I continued, I would surely be dead now. That is no exaggeration.

I just quit drinking. I had an amazing trip last Friday and it made me confront alot of stuff in my life. One of the bigger things is accepting I need to slow down on my drinking. So I made a pact with myself to quit for 6 months.

Drugs are literally what turned my life around, and I will never frown on them or give them up because of it, I just use them responsibly. Wouldn't join the service no matter how low I got in life either. I got arrested because of my shit when I was in my teens, didn't turn me around, but it ended up making me way better at not getting caught in the first place.
Still want to do more with my life, nothing is holding me back besides me though, I just haven't done what I wanted to yet because of insecurities I guess.

They turned my life around in a ton of completely positive ways. Mdma being the main one after my first dose I realized holy shit I'm actually pretty awesome. That was the key defining moment that first roll. I'm very confident in myself.
Heroin ruined that. I used to have so much money but now I'm rebuilding but am still happy. It's a part of who I am now. But I have no regrets. I do actually have a lot of them but I'm not going to stress about it. That's life.

Ive never really royally fucked up. The biggest change I've made recently was cutting down on my drinking and pot smoking. I'm already seeing the mental and physical benefits. I'm not as tired and my short term memory is better.

I'm still in the process of reforming my life. Was addicted to Heroin 2 years ago, addicted to etizolam last year after quitting heroin. Now I just take a little kratom on occasion for pain management and to quell cravings.
I still hold the belief that the problem is the user and not the drug. The way that drugs change me is relieving in the short term; but counterproductive in the long run.
I have ulcerative colitis, and recently my condition went into remission; but as a result I got really bad internal hemorrhoids from the sudden changes in my bowel movements. Now I'm living back home; had to cancel the contract I was working on and am just letting my parents take care of me.
I'm probably going to put the private contracting on hold for some time and get some accreditation via school and other credible programs for my field. That way I can just act as a manager rather than having to act as contractor and laborer; in case my condition starts giving me problems again.
The hardest part for me is to swallow my pride and admit that I need help; in any form. Kinda comical that quitting heroin and benzos was no problem; but those damn hemorrhoids got me. Luckily now I'll be getting the tests done that I should have gotten when my symptoms first started presenting themselves. Hopefully my condition stays in remission. It'd be nice to not be so fatigued all the damn time.

The nice thing about being an addict is that you have a purpose. It is to get that drug. When you are sober and doing nothing you just kind of exist.

That is so true and a great way to describe the feeling of early sobriety (early as in less than a few years lol)

I view no drug as inherently evil. It's all about moderation. Will I ever truly quit? probably not. Drugs are fucking fun. But I'm 2 years clean of heroin June 15th but I am an alcoholic and have an extremely addictive personality. I vibed with a lot of what you said as I can relate.
The thing about me is I never deny it. Especially when I start to date pretty girls. This is who I am, and who I used to be. I always tell them. Because I want to be honest and usually when i'm with someone I Want to impress I feel like I can finally be better. I'm not ashamed of it it's what had a big part of who I am today.

I thought most people see it that way. Even though I am sober and on the right track, I do need some kind of drug. For me that is sometimes nicotine and kratom. I remember my friend who was addicted to heroin saying it was so much better to do a shot when he was sick.
I understand that because I really like the process of going into slight withdrawal then getting relief and feeling great. Which is why I like kratom because you feel low without it in the morning then you do it and feel better. Something about that I like cause being sober is just feeling the same all the time.

I was kinda stuck working night shifts and getting high (on the job). Then I got fired and now I have an awesome job.
It was like an instant career. Never worked this hard in my life but it feels great!

I have plenty of hobbies and two small businesses. Just got stuck with easy money and the opportunity to get high and sleep on the job

Quick reply fail. Meant to reply to the post where Bitter Cactus was talking about addicts having a purpose. My brain was not working this morning.
