Exactly. "You know who gets eloped? Considerate people." Can't remember where I heard that but it's so true.

Never heard of having to pay for your own food at a wedding. That is pretty low. If they don't have much money they could just do hot dogs in someones backyard. I would even say it is wrong to make people pay for drinks at a wedding.

I have to go to a shitty wedding later this year. They are church people so they are having a religious ceremony in the church. I just know the church people are going to try to push religion on me and ask me to pray with them. They don't even want to get married in the church, but the church uses peer pressure to force them to. They also signed a contract that says her dress can't be sleeveless or show cleavage. They can't even have alcohol at their wedding either, but I'll be drinking openly for sure. I don't even know what else is in this crazy contract.

Weddings are awesome when they have open bars and music! but charging for food... that's crazy.  My friend just got married or eloped, i guess, and that was fairly simple only 4 people and a 15 minute ceremony.  Seems like the way to go if you dont have money to do a pay for your guests and still want to get married.  Also the backyard wedding seems like a smart idea

Asking guests to pay for their own food is pretty tacky.

The cheapest wedding I went to was my friend's, and they asked us to bring a home-cooked meal for all the guests to enjoy. At least that I still enjoyed, because it was more about enjoying the food that everybody created and sharing recipes. Plus it gave me a chance to whip out my Korean BBQ marinade and grill some short ribs and pork belly at her party.

They got married at a state park too, so their entire wedding cost basically less than $200 (most of which went to the tux rental, dress, hair, and makeup). But they both get a free pass for being cheap, because they were both only 21 or something when they got married, and had no money or support from either parents. I thought it was pretty cool actually. Getting married in nature is way cooler than getting married at a hotel.

Being an irish family, unrelated to weddings, really, we have Irish Funerals, which idk if its really irish or my family just has drug problems..

But anyways our funerals are a celebration of life, and it's not a sad crying event, I mean people are sad and cry but we always have open bars and give toasts and drink and just have a low key mellow almost party atmosphere, no music or Dj or anything crazy but just good times and alcohol telling stories of the deceased and having a fun old time.

Also every wedding has an open bar.

Basically everything has an open bar with my family..lol

I would like a wedding on the beach or forest more than a hotel. But then you have to worry about the weather and also the older members of the family that can't get around so easy.

I really wish my fiance would go for something like this. Be aware fellas that the MOMENT you propose your female will start planning for the wedding. This isnt too bad if you can afford one....however neither of us has parents who are going to pay for it. This wouldnt be too bad IF we had money.

She basically looks at venues that cost 5 grand JUST for the place, and tells herself (well its not the 30k venue I saw on TV) :bored:.

I really wish I could have a "Cheap" wedding but she has made it clear we cant, which makes me feel like shit even more because she is constantly showing me these places I cant afford when I am buried up to my eye balls in debt, with child support, and basically have no way to provide a watered down version of what she shes on TV

Sorry guys, Im drunk

i felt kinda weird having my groomsmen pay for their suit rentals, but i guess thats how it goes. nobody complained except one who was like why cant i just wear my own suit?

i totally agree, but its not my decision haha. other than that were paying for dinner and drinks, and its local for 95% of our guests, so hopefully its not an inconvenience.

I'm lucky. I'm supposed to be a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding this weekend, and at least she never made me wear one of those hideous bridesmaid dresses.

When she asked me to be at her wedding I asked her what she wanted me to wear (as is pretty standard that the bride chooses), and she responded with "any black dress that you have," which I said "cool" to. It's nice that a lot of the young generation is a lot more low-key and laid-back about following proper wedding etiquette and all that. Fuck all that bridesmaid attire and all that nonsense.

The only thing I don't like about her wedding, is that she asked people donate to her website on honeyfund.com INSTEAD of sending her a gift…. which is apparently like a donation website for couples to get money for their honeymoon. I just didn't like that, because now they will know exactly who gave how much money for their wedding. I just got out of rehab and don't start work until a couple weeks from now, I'm not in any position to be spending $150 on a friend's wedding and shit.

Like WTF, now I'm just going to look cheap only donating $50, when for that same $50 I could have gotten her a really nice fondue pot or spice rack or something. :crankey:

Actually, it really was. I don't know them from this website, but they take psychedelics and are hippies/hipster types that remind me a lot of people you would meet from the Shroomery. I'm talking people who don't spend money on a diamond ring, the husband actually welded two metal wedding bands himself for him and her, those types of hipsters.

They were so laid-back about the wedding, they didn't even hand out official wedding invitations, they simply Facebooked and texted everybody like a week before about it.

I also really liked that they had no dress-code attire. The suggested attire was: "whatever you feel like wearing." I saw tons of guests there wearing casual clothes.

The funny part it, both the groom and the bride showed up 30 minutes late to their own wedding too. I was actually surprised when they actually showed up in a tux and a white dress, I honestly thought they were going to show up and get hitched wearing jeans, knowing the hippie dippie types they are.

Society needs to follow suit. (pun intended)

Get married in a garden. It's cheap, looks nice, and is more memorable than a room. Starting a marriage with a lot of debt probably isn't a good idea.

Or maybe you could even do a surprise wedding. Like she shows up for dinner and all her freinds and family are there and you get married on the spot. Or just get married at BJ's and make your guests pay their own way

I'm dropping like $1300 on a wedding this weekend in Florida.  $450 for the planet ticket, $400 for the outfit, $200 for the hotel, and another $250 for bar and expenses.  I spend about $4-5k a year on weddings.  It basically wipes out my savings.  These are friends I've had for like a decade so I can't really say no... except for this one set between Thanksgiving and Christmas in the Florida keys.  To make it work, I would have had to fly to Miami, drive down like 6 hours, do the wedding, and leave at like 4am to make a flight in Miami after the wedding and spend buku bux to do it.  Fuck that.  Weddings are the late 20s tax.  Thankfully, the majority of my friends are married already.

$400 for the outfit?!?!? Why, nigga? Was it not a choice or do you just not know how to bargain shop?

Couldn't you just buy something cheap from Men's Wearhouse or whatever for $80? Fuck that, I would just buy a decent-looking dress off clearance from Forever 21 for under $30. I've found amazing gowns for less than $20.

Oh my god I would be so pissed if my friends did any of that shit. I would take a raincheck and just send them a really nice $300 gift in the mail. Still saved $1000!

If I ever turn into one of those bitchy bridezillas who freaks out if she doesn't have her perfect wedding thousands of miles away in Hawaii, just somebody take me out back and fucking shoot me and put me out of my misery.
