Good idea, I'll just bring snacks and maybe buy some beers.
It's 2 hours away so I do have to buy gas as well. Plus I'm not the kind of guy who has a bunch of collared shirts in his closet so I'll probably have to buy one of those too.
I have literally never heard of people doing this. Even my white-trash cousins provided catered bbq and a keg at their reception.

Damn that sounds like one shitty ass wedding. If you're paying for your food I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that it's not open bar :lol
Good luck dude. All the weddings I've been to were pretty fuckin fun

I hate weddings too. I now feel bad about having one for myself and my wife and making people feel obligated to come. Although we had an open bar and was at a hotel so people who wanted to drink didn't have to go far to a room.
A relative on my wife's side is having a wedding on the 4th of July. Told her she can go but I'm staying home and grilling up some burgers. Fuck wasting a day on that shit.

What a fucking bitch, going to try and make all her family miss America's birthday just so she can get married and then divorced a year later.
I'm planning on proposing to my love some time this summer.
Earlier this year we both took like 4 days off of work and went all the way to LA for a wedding of her friend, got a hotel on the beach. Had to go sit at some dumb ass catholic mass or whatever before they even started the wedding, because that's how the bride wanted it.
This bride and groom had been dating and living together for like 9 years with two of the years engaged. They used pretty much every one of 'our' songs at their reception because they have no ideas about their own music and heard us listening to these songs one morning we stayed at their place earlier in the year. My girl was kinda pissed about that.
Anyway this newlywed couple are going through a divorce less than a year later, apparently the wife 'fell out of love after the wedding' and she started seeing some guy from work. So pissed that we spent so much time and money on that bullshit, we got them one of those super fancy coffee machines from Germany or whatever. I want that shit back.
If you get a divorce less than a year after your wedding you should fucking return all the gifts, and be banned from having a wedding ever again.
All this has me second guessing the proposal idea.

My one sister had 2 weddings for the same marriage The first was held in the Bahamas (Where my brother in law is from) So that his side of the family could attend. and it was awesome. 35/40 guests. and then one held here in the states So our relatives could attend. Total crap Held at a place that does receptions total cost to my dad was like 30,000 dolars when all said and done. about 6 hours with shit food an open bar and a dj and a bunch of relatives I don't like. Thank god even though I was a groomsman I got seated with my Brother in laws aunt and His mom and My aunt who is like 95 now.

I'm going to my first wedding ever in August. It's my uncle on my dad's side. Which is super weird to the family because the last marriage happened in 1960 or something.
It's gonna cost me 40$. It was mentioned on the invite. I fugred its fine. Hell I don't even know if it's normal or not so you know
Is it normal?
I think the tradition is to buy a toaster as a gift right?

$40.00 is not out of line but with the invite there's probably a list of places they are registered for crap they don't need. Just get em a pre-paid debit card for what ever ammount. Oh and spend the 5.00 on the greeting card so they knew you put some thought into it.

Generally, I think its a dick move to make anyone pay for anything at a wedding.
If you attend the right ones, weddings can be awesome. Free food, free booze, music. Its fun!

If you can't afford the free food and alcohol for the reception you should probably just elope or get married by a justice of the peace imo. Last wedding i went to was pretty cool. After i ate dinner and got drunk on ipa's they had a bonus coney bar. Good times.

Never heard of that, but cash bars are fairly common. Charging for the food seems a bit ridiculous since people end up giving cash gifts anyway a lot of the time.
