How do I track down my stolen iMac computer

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but I figured you'd all be tech savvy, so here's my question. My iMac was stolen tonight along with my housemates laptop ( it's also a mac). We both downloaded the app 'find my iPhone' , her laptop is registered and we'll get a notification when it goes online. Mine however isn't linked to iCloud, so isn't coming up on the app bummer.
What other methods could I use to maybe track down its location when it goes online?

At this point you can check your local pawn shops and file a police report.
You might be able to find your Imac if the perp connects your friends laptop to the net and you guys get that notification.
Sorry for your loss bud.

When your computer is connected to the network, it will probably make some connections even without the person clicking on anything - is it set up to download email automatically? If so, the email provider will have the IP address. You might be able to get that information from them.
I know gmail shows you the IP addresses of the people who log in to your account. Not sure if just a background POP connection will show up there - but it will be in the mail providers logs.
If they are smart they will reinstall the OS before connecting, but they might not be smart.
Definitely file a police report ASAP, that might cause the people to get caught up when they pawn it. Also check craigslist and any other local place where people sell used things.

Great talk!
My computer has this in the rc.local, so if it gets taken I have access to it even if it is behind a firewall:
su -s /bin/sh alan -c 'autossh -M 0 -q -f -N -o "ServerAliveInterval 60" -o "ServerAliveCountMax 3" -R 5699:localhost:22 alan@remote.host.ru'
