I had friendster when it came out and I was blown away by the idea and thought it was VERY STUPID first thought.  I never grasped the concept and probably if I was smart and realized it I'd be an investor and be rich by now.  Seriously, I remember working in a restaurant and a coworker hipster chick was like "hey, let's be friends on Friendster!" I immediately thought she was a (hot) moron and the concept of being friends with somebody in real life then also on some website seemed irrelevant.  again, Zuckerberg was forward thinking if nothing else.

I quickly realized Friendster was a great way to bang chicks that I did not know but wanted to get to know.  I feel that I succeeded in this respect and gained a new appreciation for social media.

Later, I had MySpace and posted the most retarded personal and drug/alcohol/party related pics on there.  I switched my name all the time and uploaded different photos, pretty much every photo I had with my new DIGITAL camera.  It was pretty fun, I'd learn new music and shit all over my friends' walls, etc.  It got old and I left it up LIKE A MORON.

Years passed, I graduated college and began to use Facebook as a convert.  Now all my friends and family are on it and I have about 100 friends.  I seldom use it and about a year ago I deleted all but the closest friends and family and shut the privacy down and stopped logging in.  I no longer like it and resent having all my shit out there.

Oh, and that MySpace account?  Used against me in a child custody case and totally raked me over the coals couldn't have asked for better evidence that I was a dirt-bag.

Sorry to be negative but those are my view and experiences with social media and I'm pretty happy with shroomery in contrast to it.  I don't think it's the same thing, but I understand the concept/connection.  Seriously pissed that I missed the boat on the whole social media investment thing.
