Any animators here?

I've spent all day trying out different free animation software, and trying to work out lip syncing. I've been into making really simple gif animations lately, but I want to take it to the next level. I've always been an ok artist, not good enough to make it as an artist but cartoons aren't real art and I enjoy the tedium of going through things frame by frame and breaking them down into their essential elements.
With that said, here is my first published animation:
Not much, I know, but I spent pretty much all night on that now that I've got lip syncing down (well the fundamentals, obviously needs some tweaking) I really want to learn to do cut-out style animation, and maybe do some video edits.
Anyone else into animating here? Any feedback on my lipwork or tips for doing this sort of thing? Any ideas for audio clips I can use to practice on, or simple things to animate?

Pretty good timing. I wouldn't classify myself as an animator however I've been doing Stop Motion animation using Adobe After Effects at school, bachelor of interactive media design (Capturing images 10 FPS and creating an Image Sequence)
AutoDesk Maya can be used to animate as well, probably the better program to spend your time learning if its something you want to pursue more.

If you don't think cartoons are real art, then you don't know shit about art.

I'm not sure what program is being used for that type of animation. I've been doing 3D work with After Effects, basically the assets are all 2D but you can pass a camera through X - Y - Z direction on the grid-space and animate it like that.

I did some heavy lip sync animation a while ago, mainly in Flash. The trick to it is to have set frames for each sound that the mouth could make. If I remember right there were about 8 or 10 that we used. Then label them for each sound - like "chhh" "ssssss" etc and match it up by hand after keying your frames and properly labeling them.
Here is a kinda good overview - I'm sure there are a ton of better ones out there now with a little research:

Plus if you're in Flash and you keep everything vectorized and then motion tween it together it will be smooth and not choppy.

I'm only kidding, I just find it more fun than drawing by itself so it doesn't feel like art to me.
I use paint.net/gimp to edit the images, I really prefer paint.net but there are some things it can't do that gimp can, then use synfig to compile them. It is a flash program but I haven't really done much with the flash yet. I'm still trying to figure everything out. Lots of trial and error going on still.
After Effects is Adobe, right? I kinda would like to get the Adobe studio, but I don't like pirating stuff cuz it always seems to end in viruses and corrupted hard drives for me. I think if I was gonna spend money I would like some 3d animating software, as that seems fun too.
For the lip cues I used papagayo, which is so helpful and you can actually just export the cues by frame, and import them into synfig all as one string of images. I figure this will come in huge handy when I start doing vector stuff, because I can just lock the head and mouth and them I'm all set, like you said. Since they are .png files and not native flash elements they're going to be a little choppy. I could draw some in between frames, and have more options for the sounds (whichin papagayo are: rest, etc, E, L, O, U, AI, and I think LV off the top of my head) so if one frame is a little clunky I can fiddle with it.
If you made that Xavier tribute then I am impressed Illyabo I watched it several times.
