I was just checking these out online and every website says they're polyethylene. Are you sure yours are polypropylene or did they change the material? I'd really like to order some and start my agar adventure as soon as possible.

I saw those ones and they are probably just as good as any, try typing in glass Petri dish in the search if you havent. The first night there were limited glass ones ( in my price range) rhe second day I searched they popped up in my price range with free shipping.

Well, I ran with this tek last night. Unfortunately I did not have potato flakes on hand, but I did have dehydrated potatoes from a box of scalloped potatoes. I ground up a few to get to 2 teaspoons, but then realized that 2 teaspoons of ground potato dust is much more than the equivalent in potato flakes. It was really thick so I doubled up the water to try and even it out. I will see how it ended up setting up when I get home from work, hopefully it turned out ok.

I tried out a pack of these new square ziplocs on the weekend. They seem like they should work pretty good but I'm going to miss the slightly larger round ones.

I still have about 60 of the round ones left but they have seen a lot of use and are getting a bit worn out.
Those scars are over 10 years old.

Wonder how effectual that will be.
Suggestion: try to begin to find an online source for these things if you feel like they may be going out of print. Beginning to consider wiping out shelves of their stock of these Glad minirounds, and use them as trading leverage.

I have my favorite containers but in the end I'll use anything that works. There are always 1/4 pint or wide mouth 1/2 pint jars if all else fails.

Can't Tiger drop a half pint canning jar.
But my store shelves have been empty on the minirounds too. But I thought it was because of my location.

You should be abled to tiger drop the small square ziplocs. They are about the same size as the glad mini rounds.

The tiger drop is pretty sweet. Eat actually did it into a LI. I really need to stock up myself just in case as I plan to use these until I get a hood. But thats gonna be years.

Yea, I don't even have my agar yet (never worked with agar) and am already going to buy more. These are perfect for me, I could barely use a spore syringe in my SAB so pouring agar was immediately out of the question.

Yeah, a hood would be nice. I would love to just buy one outright. I'll probably build it though because the size I want is out of my price range.

Check out the links I provided in this thread. I set this guy up nice but I don't think he'll follow my advice on the blower though.

You guys dreaming of flow hoods have got to try a shmuvbox. I used to think about the day I'd be able to afford a flow hood and then I built a shmuvbox with a HEPA rated filter (rated for mold spores, highest rated filter that fits the unit) and my work has been clean since.
Even my wife can do agar work now with no previous experience and a 100% success rate.
Then again she has a good teacher.

I actually envy though's who have great success with SAB's because of how cheap they are to build. I love the freedom of not working in a box though. I am claustrophobic and get very uneasy having to work in a tight space which may have contributed to an unsteady hand. But I still think the draftiness of my home was the biggest contam vector. I am proud to have built the flow hood because for me it wasn't just a walk in the park. I am not a carpenter, an electrician nor did I know anything about filters and blowers. It took a lot of research, planning and hard work to build and so when I see posters critisizing them, I get a little frustrated.
