Yin & Yang

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. The past weekend I had a fantastic weekend at a music festival. I was high off life and some drugs all weekend long. Then the following week both my phone and my bike got stolen. To me this represents a high followed by a low. It seems like it is the universes way of saying Fuck you, because if you did not get low, you would not appreciate the high. It is just the price you pay for conscious existence.
You see this manifest itself in mental state when using most drugs. Without getting high on X, there is no equivalent mental low. This contrast between different mental states and even senses is the key to Yin and Yang. Without this contrast there would not be any joy, love, desire; I am not even sure there would be a world. If you view Yin and Yang as difference, you begin to see how either side of the scale needs an equal state on the opposite side of the scale. This scale is incredibly complex and accompanies many dimensions of course.
All Senses and states of mind are a matter of degree's, I believe that this is what Yin & Yang represents. No life --> No Death. No sorrow --> No joy. One accompanies the other. It is just a fact of life. Fire brings destruction yet creates the opportunity for new life.
I think the core message of Yin & Yang is just to accept things as they are. What do you think?

the creative force is energy.
energy flows like a river, but to have any perspective on movement something must move in relationship to something else.
something must have the perception of standing still (nothing ACTUALLY stands still)
the interesting thing about joy and sadness, is that in order to know joy, you must know sadness
but to know great joy you only need to know of sadness, not necessarily great sadness.
morality at its core, is the least amount of suffering for the greatest number of conscious beings.
we must be aware of suffering, to be aware of its absence, but we do not need suffering in equal measure to be aware of its absence in a given measure.

I agree about the Yin and Yang, and it makes sense the context of drugs. You get ridiculously high, and then you have a bad comedown.
In Hermeticism this is one of the seven universal laws, called the Principle of Rhythm. It is liked to a pendulum swinging. You can't have the upswing without the downswing. It can be seen in all aspects of life, from mental to physical. For example, night must follow day. Newton's third law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and this applies physically, emotionally, and mentally. The entire world is created from opposites which exist along a sliding scale. The further you slide to the left, the further you must later slide to the right to balance it out. It can also be seen in the good versus evil dichotomy.
I think acceptance is definitely heading in the right direction, but there are difference level of acceptance. One level is just living life to the max, ride the waves when they come and know that neither the good nor bad will last forever. Another way to view it, is to try and rise above it completely. To try and move beyond the dichotomy altogether and to learn to stop viewing things in a dualistic manner. In order to do that, I think you have to learn how to become the observer of your own thoughts (in a meditative sense). If you can begin to observe your own thoughts without becoming involved in them, you can thereby eventually release all judgments of good and bad altogether.
"The Hermetic Masters long since discovered that while the Principle of Rhythm was invariable, and ever in evidence in mental phenomena, still there were two planes of its manifestation so far as mental phenomena are concerned. They discovered that there were two general planes of Consciousness, the Lower and the Higher, the understanding of which fact enabled them to rise to the higher plane and thus escape the swing of the Rhythmic pendulum which manifested on the lower plane. In other words, the swing of the pendulum occurred on the Unconscious Plane, and the Consciousness was not affected. This they call the Law of Neutralization." - The Kybalion
So I think the point of Yin and Yang is to release our attachment to "good" and "bad" thoughts/experiences, so that we no longer depend on having the good or avoiding the bad for our happiness. Happiness becomes independent of the physical world
