Slicing pf cakes for maximum humidity exposure

I'm curious what you guys think about slicing cakes in half or thirds after they're fully colonized. The way I would do it would either do it as soon as they are birthed or put them in the freezer, wait a day, then slice them with a really sharp knife.
I propose this for 2 reasons: 1) I notice on cakes they always start fruiting near the bottom where all the water is. So to me it seems this is obviously the most humid place. Im also aware of putting a little pile of verm on top as a reservoir. But I still see it all on the bottom layer
And 2) in my latest batch of cakes, I miss took an uncolonized patch on the bottom of the cake as a contamination. So I broke it open to see the inside and it was perfectly fine. (Fuck right?) To my surprise it didn't really bruise too much. About the same rate as my other cakes. And it's fruiting just fine.
And after 3 cuts to a cake that an extra surface exposed to the air that is allowed to fruit.
I feel it would be a win win if it doesn't do as much damage as one might assume it would
Edit: I forgot to ask if anyone had thought of this before. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

I would love to see your results. I always love to see experiments with modifications to teks. Who know? Maybe you'll discover some new information that this community will endorse in the future. I wonder if this has ever been done before?
And I know all about mistaking contams. I once thought "reaching" mycelium was trich and tried to cut it off (noob mistake). I quickly learned I just had a FAE problem and ruined my cakes.
Let us know your results

I'll definitely do a follow up with this. It'll be a while. If I get a good first flush I'll do It on the second go of the cakes I've got now. Otherwise it'll be at least 2 months before I can follow up with new jars.

Wouldn't this not increase your surface area at all?
You could crumble the cakes to spawn but I've heard this also decreases yield.
If I had to guess I would say that the energy the myc would spend recovering / and the halved network of nutrients to work off of - would lessen your yields if anything.
I've kind of wanted to try and skewer a cake for a while and fruit it semi mid-air to see if that would increase yields slightly

Cutting the cake will result in a larger surface area, but what'll really come into play here is the reduced size of the sub, meaning two smaller halves instead of one whole cake. A smaller sub generally means smaller fruits. You might get a few big ones, but I'd expect smaller fruits if I were you.

My friend told me he knew someone that would cut them into about 1" slices and fruit them that way in a SGFC. I never saw the grow but he said it worked..
Myconin is probably right, I'd expect you to have more fruits but less flushes as well. Probably a good idea if you only want cakes to flush once.
EDIT: found you a similar thread..

Basically makes the same conclusions.

My concern is not so much with surface area but with the humidity near the surface itself. If everything is moved closer to the ground where it's moist, then everything would grow faster, I would think.

Oh I get it. You keep getting bottom pins, so you want more bottoms. Just switch to bulk and use a monotub. SGFC's work but you can't control the climate properly.

So as promised I'm trying the slicing. And because I got a good flush I'm gonna post pics of how much I got total. this is about an ounce dry

As you can see the little chunk that broke off grew nicely which gave me confidence that this will work. And that almost all the shroomies came up from the bottom of the cakes This is effectively twice the yield I got on my first flush that I attempted about 4 months ago so I'm happy with it

Here are my sliced cakes. 2 cakes in thirds make 6 little ones.
I also want to add that when mixing up the substrate, I ground up 2 tablets of the nature's cure bee caps and mixed it in with the water. It doesn't dissolve but it got in the mix anyway, which seems to have made a difference. I think I'll do that mix from now on

Ok so a few days have gone by and I'm getting mixed results.

Some of the cut cakes are fruiting pretty well. But it's on top. I had expected them to be fruiting everywhere including the sides. But I have a theory. It's that because of the diminished surface arearea the sides. So when I'm misting, most of the water is getting on the top and minimum on the sides.
Also only 2 of the 6 mini cakes are fruiting at all. The other 4 seem to just be chillin. They're knotting like crazy tho so I'm expecting something in the next couple days.
I also have a question (if anyone is still keeping up with this) What's up with these white dots coming out of the top of this bunch over here. I've never seen this before. I tried pushing them off but they're growing out of it so it's not verm or perlite.

I'll update in a few days

Ok so the next day after the post above they fucking exploded! Both in size and with fucking spores!

That last pic was 2 nights after. I'm not misting them cuz I heard it can cause major growth cuz the myc is like OH SHIT NO WATER EVER AGAIN and putz everything into its shrooms. They did grow well so maybe I'll try this again later on
Cheers

Any comments on yield difference between the sliced and unsliced cakes?

I haven't weighed anything out yet. Still drying them all out. So I can't give an exact number but it wasn't very much only because 2 or 3 of the halves didon't fruit at all. So I'm thinking it's only worth slicing them in half because they might be taking too much energy to recover. Well see on the third flush tho. I've got them ducked right now

Third flush was pretty ok. All in all I got an oz and a half. With a half oz coming from the third flush
