Clarification of dunking methods
    #2177775 - 12/14/03 10:39 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I know this must seem like a simple and annoying question but I can't seem to find any clarification in any of the TEKs or posts that I have searched.

My question involves dunking a casing. When dunking, is the entire casing container (baking pan, substrate, case layer, etc.) submerged? This would be the only way I can picture (never attempted, obviously) this procedure working. If this is true, I would assume the container would need drainage and a buffer between the drainage and the substrate.

Any elaboration is greatly appreciated, thanks.

You really shouldnt dunk a casing. All the water that is needed by the casing can be achieved through misting.

And misting will be sufficient enough to completely rehydrate a case after a full flush? Should misting be done throughout the pinning and growth period or strictly after a flush?

if you really need to moisten your entire casing, just pour some water down the sides of the casing where it has pulled away from its container after the first flush... to me, misting is sufficient.

Thanks Late,

How often and when do you mist?

If you do pour water into the casing then I suggest that you sterilize it first.

hah, this reminds me of the tek i brought over from shittakes to pf cakes, where i would soak the cake in water for a few days after 2 flushes to load the cake back up with water. Hell give it a shot with casings

works great for cakes... i got 13 flushes out of b+ cakes dunking them after they felt all dry and spent... I thnk i dunked a total of 3 or 4 times in that whole 13 flush span of time... Also the more times they flushed, i noticed an increase in potency...
