Broken brain/depression
    #21776993 - 06/08/15 01:23 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Hi. This is my first post. Thank you for existing and thank you to whoever replies.

The questions I have:
1) Can Psilocybin heal your brain?
2) Has your life improved because of mushroom usage? Please describe.
3) If you have taken antidepressant and it works for you what result have you notice?

A little back story:
I have this brain where my mind tends to be foggy and sluggish. It's mostly blank or regular thoughts accompanied with unhelpful ones. And whenever I'm presented with a doable task I tend to stumble often and then dwell on negative emotions and thoughts. In social situation I act weird because doubts of self underlay my actions.

When I take sertraline, SSRI medication, I feel free and alive like a completely different person. I feel like "this is what everyone must be feeling on a consistent basis."  My mind works better. Thoughts come freely such as creative thoughts and insights. I seem to have this buffer where things which would annoy "old me" doesn't bother me as much. In social situations I am more engaging.

At the age of 16 I took MDMA two days straight. 1 pill the first day 2 pills the second. I was hospitalized because I was in a depersonalized state. My depression got slightly worst when I returned to my usual self. I became more aware of myself in a negative light. My brain is sensitive to psychedelics.

I never knew I had "depression" until my mid twenties. The whole time I thought this is just who I am. I've been on and off antidepressant for about 7 years. I don't want to be dependent on it.

Thank you for your time,
JV11

The psychedellic experience teaches change. Change is the complete undoing. Death of all that is, and the birth of the next universe.

If you catch my drift.

And thus begins the  reverse-fusing of our one-dimentional understanding, and adds ever-expanding perspectives, in depth and number; splitting our perception, and in so doing, seemingly irrationally, creates yet more one-ness, with all that ever was, is and will ever be, streching across the infinite, inunderstood concept of everything, percievable and not.

Well, I haven't done any Mushies in quite some time, but I can answer you last question. I've been on Zoloft for quite some time and it's been a great help to me. They do diminish your libido, and of course, they're way over-prescribed. An unfortunate part of it is that I'll have to take them for the rest of my life, but that's far preferable to living with crushing, overwhelming depression. I hope that helps you somewhat, my friend. Good like and I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Zoloft made me a going through the motion zombie.  Had no emotion and broke up with a long time gf and was completely not myself.  No anxiety, but nothing excited me anymore.  But it's different for everyone

Yes, this is indeed true. My emotions seem to be muted somewhat, but the alternatives are far worse for me. YMMV, however.

Yeah so this would be something for one to weigh out before they got prescribed.  I never came close to a panic attack or any of that sort while on it.  Also there was a bit of withdrawal after stopping.  Not so much physical, but jittery, rush's of anxiety, heart flutters

hey man.

psychedelics/prescription medication are extremely case specific, so regardless of any of the information youre given on here, keep in mind that these things differ for everyone.

however, what I will tell you is this. if youre expecting to put anything into your body, as a "cure" to the angst and depression youre experiencing, youre going to be extremely disappointed. medication and psychedelics are merely tools, to help you navigate through the noise while you work on changing the things out in the real world that you need to.

I spent all of last year experimenting with mushrooms, and they had no lasting effect on my depression or anxiety. they simply gave me a different perspective on things, able to see myself and my life through an "outsiders" perspective, if that makes sense. if for nothing else, mushrooms were a great way for me to release pent up emotions that ive stuffed down for years.

as for antidepressants, for ME personally, they did not work. they often made things much worse (anxiety wise) and the fact that my dick didn't work was enough for me. to remove one of the VERY few things I get enjoyment from was enough for me to say fuck it. ive given antidepressants a shot, many times over the years, but ive never had success.

here if ya feel like talking. good luck brother! :peace:

Mushrooms have been shown to increase the rate of natural brain regeneration. Depression can be associated with brain cell loss, I guess from cortisol overdoses from a stressful life, or else something is damaged or deformed in development that regulates neurotransmitters.

Mushrooms are GOOD for the brain in general.

http://naturalsociety.com/research-suggests-psychedelic-mushrooms-offer-valuable-brain-treatments/

So mushroom use is a good idea if you suspect some brain abnormalities.

It's a bit much to say they are so magic they will just fix your life, but they and DMT running through your brain are really quite good for it. After DMT I could think really clearly and was like, SHIT! I'm back to normal reality! Which then wore off after maybe 30 minutes.

hey circastes, out of curiosity, outside of the realm of psychedelic drugs, do you know anything else that can reverse the damage done due to chronicly elevated cortisol levels??

also, I agree with what you said about mushrooms. but in cases where anxiety is present, its not always the best idea. anxiety and cortisol go hand in hand. mushrooms exacerbate anxiety for many people, which is only going to further the damage done/being done by elevated cortisol levels.
