the dad thread
    #21775961 - 06/07/15 08:39 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Hows your dad doing? What's he into? What kind of a father was he?

I want to get to know your dads.

Is your dad a good dancer?

What does he look like without a shirt on?

Does he still work out?

I wanna know about your dads.

My dad is 53 this year. He's got bad knees and he had a major heart attack around 40 from carbon monoxide poisoning. He's a little 'seasoned' from that stuff but he's a great guy and an amazing grandfather. Always worked really hard, tried to help anyone that needed it, never afraid to speak his mind but never tries to step on toes that didn't ask for it. I don't know really, I couldn't imagine asking more out of a human being. He's a super good person whom everyone adores, the life of the party everywhere he goes, and I love him very, very much. He always did an amazing job being my father and filling in where my mother wasn't. I couldn't thank him enough for being such a wonderful inspiration in my life and the person I try to be. Him passing is going to be the hardest thing I'll ever face but I know it's only because I promised him I wouldn't be sad.

My dad is cooler than your dad.

No but really, my dad is cool as shit. He was born on the year 1950 so he's seen and been through some shit. He could tell stories for hours about the crazy scenarios and drugs he's been on. 27 years old I still hear stories I've never heard of before. Nowadays he just smokes weed but he has a drug history that makes most shroomery members look like newbs. He's the type of person who can just strike up a conversation with anyone. We are really close, I love my dad.

My dad's awesome.  He runs a major healthcare system and has worked at all the players.  For a time, he was travelling building cancer hospitals around the world.  He's met the Saudi royal family and has been in almost every major city in the world.  He now has a large ranch with horses on it where he spends the majority of his time.  He also has a gigantic 18th-19th century mantle clock collection.  At its peak, it was apparently worth $40,000.  He even had a clock off a Soviet era submarine that had pretty much the best machinery of any of his clocks.  Some of them are really beautiful--especially the early 18th century German clocks.  Apparently, there's like one dude in the entire southeast who can repair these things.  He also has like 9 vehicles including a 65 fully restored mustang and a sizeable guitar collection including identical models for Jeff Beck, Clapton, and some others, even though he is a terrible guitar player .  He basically picks up sad guitars at this crazy shop with this badass luthier and makes the guitar badass.  He says they are meant to be beautiful or something.  He claims that when he retires he's going to start up a historic clock repair shop and tinker away his days.  We'll see if that happens.  In addition, he's become a really giving guy in his late age.  He acquired the property next to his and lets this badass old cowboy live out his days for way under rental value and they chill all the time and share stories.

That said, he's a really closed guy and rarely shares his feelings.  He had a traumatic childhood with 14 brothers and sisters and said his spot in the van was on the floor.  He almost never talks about his youth and claims he can't remember, which is probably true.  I do know though that he was a hippie at one point and went to tons of shows/festivals back in the early 70s.  I found that out a couple years ago from an uncle when he was drunk .  Whenever I swing through he always throws on Dark Side of the Moon because we both love that album.  I was bitter that he left my mom in 5th grade and was almost never around when I was a kid even when they were together, but I got over it.  He does the best he can and I know that now.

Yes, actually.  He's very fit.  Taking care of the ranch and horses is a lot of work.  He's always loved manual labor since I was a kid.  I think it helps take off the anxiety from the work place.

My dad came from a poor family in Scotland, majored in accounting, and was making 300,000 GBP a year. Came over here, married my mom, had kids, got a job in real-estate to support his kids  ; Housing market crashed around 2007, now he works 10-12 hours a day except sunday, for $10.50 an hour mowing lawns, and up-keeping a golf course. He's depressed, in constant pain, has diabetes among many other illness'es; and I'm scared his time is real soon. I haven't seen that man laugh since I was 9. Now that I think about it I haven't even seen him smile in a long time.

I respect the hell out of this man. and I'm proud to call him my dad

My real dad is a drunk, who left my mom (I don't blame him) when I was a baby.I actually just found out after 25 years that my oldest brother is actually my half brother. My mom was married before she married my dad but I guess she said it was his son, but he isn't.

My step dad used to be an abusive alcoholic but then he got his shit together and he's alright. We don't really talk, he thinks us kids (there's 3 of us) are asshole because we don't respect our mom (she's nuts). So I just live my life.

My father in law is awesome. He's quiet and stays to himself but he's a really good guy.
