Hey all! I have 2 one pound bags of Rye berries, that are fully colonized and I don't know If I should soak them in water for 12 hours and put in the fridge. and then break them up and case them with a verm and rice flour mixture. Would this work? Any thoughts would help thanks.

Imo, just about any colonized material can be spawned, the most important thing is that it is FULLY colonized first. That said I have spawned jars that had uncolonized spots in them, and as long as the substrate is properly pasteurized, the myc usually can get enough of a head start to beat the contams, provided that temps and other conditions are optimal as well. When you first break open your spawned bag, if there are large areas uncolonized, use a sterile spoon to remove the majority before fully mixing in with your substrate.
Also, I would not bother to soak it, just make sure your substrate has been hydrated to the proper field capacity content and you will be fine. If you're worried you could case with a layer of sterilized verm (at FC also) just to be sure, but unless you've had trich or other contam issues you're having to deal with, I'd just let her go until full colonization and then case. Good luck and let us know how it turns out ;?D

One more thing, NEVER add any nutrients to your casing material as you would be simply inviting contams to a free lunch. Now it may be that you're confusing casing for substrate, in which case, lol, yes you can add rice flour I suppose (I've never used it) but my favorite substrate recipe is as follows:
5 parts coir 5 parts verm 1 part decaf coffee grounds (fresh, not used and decaf cuz caffeine inhibits growth) 1/2 part of either wheat/soy/rice bran 1/8 cup vegetable oil per gallon of sub 1 teaspoon gypsum per gallon of sub Salt to taste (JUST kidding ;?)
