Can I grow peyote with Miracle Gro soil mixes?

I have 12 williamsii seeds and am ready, just not prepared, to germinate them. All I have available for soil is Miracle Gro cactus, palm, and citrus soil, Miracle Gro potting mix, and a few quarts of perlite. Will a blend of these work for germinating peyote? And what about seedlings and mature plants? Also, I'd be really appreciative if somebody experienced could give a detailed guide to raising peyote from seed, preferably indoors.

I would never ever use it. It's got fertilizer in it. I'd go with coco coir and perlite. I put sand in mine but it's not needed. And if you grow indoors, under fluros is good just keep them away from direct light.

Isn't miracle grow owned my Monsanto? That alone would deter me from using it.
But also miracle grow sucks.

Now now. Lets help him out instead of dissing what he's got. I hate monsanto as much as the next guy but he is asking for advice on what to use.
But you're right. It does suck. I've just barely started cutting ties. Last I bought was the MG insecticidal soap. But I couldn't find the safe brand soap. So I settled.

Mature plants can be grown in 100% mineral mix like mine are. It helps immensely as the water flows freely.

I disagree 100%. I use miracle grow organic garden soil, and cut it 40% with perlite. It is amazing with the trichs. Monsanto owning MG is a bonus.

Organic and chemical are 2 different things. At least they are trying to get their shit together.

Organic is straight up the only way I grow at home. Ive had to use exclusively synthetic at all the greenhouses ive worked at though.
But seriously organic is 1000x more fun to grow with!

MG contains a good bit of peat and too many chunks of wood and other debris. Which can cause the plant to rot. On top of that, it tends to be overly hydrophobic, which is problematic when trying to water. The water tends to go down the side of the pot instead of the soil soaking it up and hydrating all of the roots. You can overcome that if you water from the bottom. If that's all you have at the moment, it can work in a pinch when you mix it with other things like perlite and coarse sand and small rocks. Your goal is to create a soil that drains well and does not become too compact. Let us know what you end up doing.

I don't know if you guys have tried it before but I've been using a mixture of 1 part coir, 1 part Sta-Green potting soil and 2 parts cleaned/rinsed miracle grow perlite for my lophs.
Sta-Green potting soil seems to have ALOT less wood chunks than any other soil I've found yet. Not the moisture control in the blue bag the potting soil in the green bag is what I've been using.

Yup. But not as much as peat. Coir is 100 times better than peat for most applications.

It's easy enough to sift out the chunks of wood. If I did that, would either the cactus soil or potting soil be suitable for lophophora?

One site suggests germinating them in course sand, which would be the easiest thing for me to get. The same site also suggests using a fish tank as a propagation chamber. I was planning on just putting saran wrap over the containers and using a heating pad if necessary. I don't know about the air exchange requirements of peyote seedlings, so, again, I'd be really grateful if somebody could post a tried-and-true method for germinating and growing peyote, preferably indoors and without spending too much money. If necessary I could order some soil supplies online, but I'm already worrying about the viability of these seeds and would like to get them in the ground ASAP.

That's what most people do when it's the only thing available. I mean it's cactus soil for Petes sake. So it works. Not the best but it works.

About as easy as it gets. That's Ariocarpus fissuratus . But it can work for the majority of cacti.

Sorry, I've never grown from seed before and just want to be sure everything goes right, like a first-time parent. Thanks for the advice.

If you want everything to be right then you really need to go make your own soil, sans miracle grow. You can grow with it, but you're not exactly setting yourself up for success. Considering it's one of the worst products you can grow with.
