Yesterday's happy find - in a 7 week old MS jar of PF Classic already used for G2G a couple weeks back:

so the grains pinned invitro after consolidated?

happens to me too!
do you use natural light when you colonise by any chance?
i was told that grains dont knot or pin invitro even when consolidated and only brf does.

my experience tells me different..
the only difference to how i do it is use natural light and it happens if im to slow to spawn.

the TCs alarmed me saying it cant and dont happen with grain spawn in jars and i thought i must be doing something wrong!

only thing i could reason it up to was them TCs use artificial lighting and they was drawing from their use of thoose!

still i have no answer to why my jars knot and start to pin after consolidated even with grains!! help im lost

seem its not only me!
but i was assured it only happens with brf and also with bulk subs but never with grain spawn and was threatened with a ban for spreading misinformation lol

or is it that when you G2G the change of air and lowing of co2 for all of 20 mins in the jar  enough FAE to trick the myc into it friuting

and if so why it take 7 weeks after exposing to 1 air exchange, surly cant be that.

Oh, those jars were just left sitting on the kitchen counter - the 4 clean MS ones, and I used the strongest to go G2G.

I've had plenty pinning off grain alone if I leave them long enough with a little GE.  I think the air volume made a difference here - there's only maybe a 100cc of grain left in the jar, so there's less metabolism of O2 going on and hence the filter disc is getting a higher level of O2 in the jar then for the filled ones. They were only sitting a couple weeks BTW after air exposure.

Also could be some strains are more likely to pin under less than optimal conditions.

Is that green tint an illusion?

It was taken outside in the shade and likely not color balanced on account of all the white myc.

My SAB has great viability and lots of room to work with. I wouldn't say no to a hood if someone offered me a free one but there are a lot of other things I want to spend money on before a hood.

What TC was it. Whoever it was is wrong. Cubs will fruit on any fully colonised substrate under almost any conditions. No light or FAE required. They may take longer on grain because its high in nutrients but cubs grow like weeds. You can't hold them back.

All my grains sit on a shelf 4 feet away from a light bulb.....none of them ever pin in the jars....even the ones left there for months.....

Do you work in that dry?  I use a tote I cut a couple of holes in and I always wash it with soap and water and leave it wet so the particles stick to it.

Trying to figure out if that's overkill or not as I'm moving into agar.

I start most of my grows using clones taken from in vitro petri dish pins. So my cultures all pin very readily.

I soak the inside with soapy water. I usually put a wet towel on the bottom as well.

On my last couple runs, I started having seemingly random contam issues across multiple tested cultures.  My sterile technique is decent & I use a flowhood, so wasn't really sure what was going on.

Here's a bottom of a quart jar :

See it?

How about now? :

My old house had an electric stove, the new place has a gas stove.  Looks like I put hairline cracks into some jars by running the heat too high.  I've found seventeen so far & expect to find at least that many more.

Actually yes. It's a tragedy that I can't clone or do some kind of isolate of this stuff. I have like 10 monos under my belt
and the last couple of ones with this strain has been crazy. Even though it's MS and I work with unclean spawn all the time.

So I did a ganoderma tub a while back and forgot to flip it in time. Found it with a 1/4" of metabolites on top, shit was swimming. Knew my pinset was gonna be dead but drained it off and gave it a scratch and still managed to coax a few fruits out. The sub poured all it had into them few fruits and made some gnarly ass monsters. Next time I gonna remember to flip the damn tub
