Addiction to recreational use? Is it possible?

Any opinions if you can go from being a full blown addict (cant get out off bed without a pill) to just using on special occasions? Is it possible? Benzodiazepine's are the drug off choice here

Addicts exhibit addictive behavior which means that they are likely to relapse into heavy use with casual consumption. Take from that what you will.
Benzos are a unique class of drugs for sure. They definitely have medical benefit but I've seen a lot of people become dependent on them.
I enjoy a xanax or klonopin from time to time but never really more than that. Not my choice cup of tea.

I am aware off the risks involved with casual consumption. Not taking them for medical benefits more so to party, 4-8mg of Xanax and half a bottle off some nice scotch and your set for the night, no other drug I have ever come across is as fun to party on. Just dreading doing the same thing, addiction is not fun especially with depressants never felt as bad as I did when I stopped taking them last time. Very weary but at the same time miss them immensely during party occasions where alcohol/drugs are involved

The longest I haven't used drugs is 8 months;
in that time I did not stop thinking about drugs.
Welcome to the life of the addict. It's not hard to stay off drugs when you're an addict. Psychological soothing.
OP, if you are contemplating this, it's already too late.

Is it worth it though? Giving up use all together? Feel like I would be stuck in certain social occasions (birthday, bucks night etc)

Yes. And definetly no.
Those social events are far more precious then the drugs.

If you can use them casually, more power to you. But if that were the case, I don't think you would be asking this question.

If you are not yet addicted, I very strongly suggest you keep it that way. The very last thing you want to do is to get addicted to benzos.

You are teasing yourself.
I was never an opiate addict but I was a cocaine and ketamine addict.
Although I haven't taken drugs in years, I still have a strong interest in psychedelics. I would take party drugs (ecstacy and related, and ketamine) at a music festival. In this situation, I would probably exhibit addict like/binge behavior.
I don't really do moderation. When i go, i go hard.
That said - it's been so long now, that I wouldn't be surprised if i dosed - didn't like it and just slept for the rest of the weekend. Ketamine would almost certainly induce the binge behavior though, as would cocaine.
Could i return to normal life and avoid these substances? Certainly...
It's easier to abstain altogether though.

I don't know a single person that could use benzos or opiates responsibly or recreationally after abusing them for a time. It seems like one of those all or nothing type of things. Once an addict to something, especially something highly addictive like benzos... it's hard to do otherwise.
I can use them recreationally like once every blue moon... but I've never been addicted to them.
I suppose it's possible.... but highly unlikely. But the basic fact that you are asking this question leads me to think that no, you probably couldn't do it.
I mean maybe I'm wrong.. but if you want to just use them occasionally at a party or whatever... what is going to stop you from doing them again the next day, and then the next day and then the next day? I don't know anyone who enjoyed benzos that couldn't keep it to moderate use. They'd always say oh yeah just today.. then the next day they'd be popping more.. and the rest of the week..

Going to give it a go, after at least a three to six month break on a month and a half now, keep it just to very special occasions if it doesn't work out I will know for a fact I can never use any sort off drug ever again with possibly the exception of hallucinogenic's. Just have to be extremely weary!

Do you think people wake up and go "I am going to be a drug addict!!".... no. it's something that can happen gradually over time
