Yeah, that's people kept saying in threads I was browsing, but I've got time to kill, and OPs from previous threads didn't even make an attempt.

Correct. I have failed many times. No harm in trying.

But did you see ANY mycelium growth?

Kill time until there's no time to kill. Not cool.

Ummmm i saw mycelium growth in about %2 of the silly "out of the box" experiments like this that I tried. But that %2 was on stuff I had PC'd. Ive never ever seen myc grow on experiments like this that werent were not PC'd. Save for some mycelium I did manage to grow out of a random flower pot, I think I harvested like 3-5g cubensis from a draceanna reflexa pot, but then the myc contammd and killed my draceanna, so....

I haven't had bread mold on me in some time, I was considering that it was some kind of chemical additive, like benomyl or something. In any case it would very likely prevent the cube spores from germinating.

I can see why you are getting some ridicule but being on this forum for any length of time will quickly desensitize you of negativity and snobbery. I would have tried to sterilize the bread though. I don't know how well it would stand up to a PC but that may have been a better way to start. I am guessing that the mean green will show up rather quickly and spoil your party. If you have any other mycology projects going on you may want to isolate that bread to keep spore contamination to a minimum.

What brand are ya dealing with? I've seen trich colonizing this SaraLee in the past; When people would ignore the last piece of bread for a week or two.

A week or two is how long mycelium will take to grow if you used MS syringe...
Now youve added water for that trich, its not going to take a week or two for it to show up this time.

Bread will need to be sterilized if its to have a chance. If mold won't germinate on it chances are nothing will. If the cube spores can germinate that means competitors can too. End.

If I recall correctly, (from the 2nd grade, lol) I had a "clean" piece of bread, and one that I tossed into a sandbox, and they were each in difference baggies. The sandbox baggie took about a week and a half to colonize and then it was tossed. The "clean" bread has a little trich on the corners were it was handled. I don't recall washing my hands. This was YEARS ago though, maybe the teacher made me wash my hands and I don't recall.

I wouldn't doubt the chances of this experiment working are about the same as getting hit by lightning, but I like my chances nevertheless. At least there's a chance. Am going to let it run it's course, and if it fails, I may try again with sterilized bread (dunno how I'm going to pull that off) or a LC.

Just to be clear, even if it did produce a fruit it still wouldn't be an experiment. It would be at best a proof of concept, nothing more. The odds of this working are far less than being hit by lightning tho. Compared to being hit by lightning or abducted by aliens this would be a long shot.

The best way to pull off a grow of this nature would be to have a fresh piece of bread placed into a pp5 sandwich container. Ziploc makes lots of em. Then add a filtered hole for GE and sterilize in a PC. You would want to avoid liquid inoculate so I would either use grains sprinkled over the bread or a few agar wedges. It would certainly be an interesting novelty.

Ten days later and no signs of myc or contaminates, going to give it a solid 30 days before I toss it though. Go vote on that one guy's poll on the first page.
