Most people hate movies nowadays because they are a waste of brain to watch. I can't blame them. I was watching Taxi Driver earlier and it became apparent what current movies are missing. It's in the silence! The cracks in dialogue and action and background music that drives and fixates perception. With those short bits of silence comes understanding, realization, revelation, wonderment, and ultimately care for what's going on. Taxi Driver does an amazing job of bringing you in to the movie by creating wonder instead of flashing pretty colors in your face to distract you from anything else but the movie. You are sucked in to the movie because you want to be, not because you have no choice in the decision.
Have you seen it?
Give it a shot, and notice the scenes where one person just stares at another. There's always something to be learned in those dialogue gaps.

yeah, taxi driver is a classic, thinky movie. and it also gets boring as fuck after the fifth time you see it.
since it came out, ive seen the wolf of wall st about 25 times and can still enjoy it. same goes for Out of the Furnace and a bunch of other movies
there are alot of reasons why alot of modern blockbusters are lacking. the silence isnt the only part
there are still fucking awesome movies coming out all the time, they just arent always highly advertised or given worldwide theatrical releases
saying movies are "a waste of brain" is a pretty stupid thing to say if thats true, novels are a waste of brain, and so is music. and video games. and any art really

I have never realized that that was one of the things that made taxi driver so damn good.
Its one of my favorites movies. Another thing I like about it is how the story didn't seem manufactured it just kinda happened. It left a lot up to be interpreted and it felt like I actually was a part of it idk that movie is just amazing imo.
Havn't seen it in forever I noticed its on netflix probably time to give it another watch. Oddly enough I really obsessed over this movie in high school when I was straight edge because of this scene:
Havn't watched it since doing drugs.

Yeah, every year a bunch of brilliant movies come out. There's a ton of bad ones, but it's not like they stopped making good films after x year.

Never seen wolf of wall street, but if Gresh says it's good it's gotta be good.
Also to be relevant to the thread, taxi driver was indeed boring as fuck.

So maybe not every modern movie sucks it's weight in gold, and I've heard only good things about The Wolf of Wall Street but haven't seen it yet. I'll definitely give it a watch today because I love to be proven wrong. It's all about mental growth.
But after taking this History of Film class and seeing how movies changed and developed over time due to advancements in the industry like new color cameras, extremely fast tracking of moving objects, and especially CGI, Hollywood has started spitting out flashy movie with a poor plot after flashy movie with a poor plot.
And Taxi Driver can be watched by most people, not five times in a month, but on and off throughout their entire life, because of the way it makes you think. It seems like the movie goes on with no direction, but really it's Travis who has no direction and he's just trying to figure out how to live. Love it.
I'll watch Wolf tonight.

If you're doing 50 unassisted pull ups a day, then the 50 push ups are damn near useless.
