I don't know much in terms of cultivation, but I do know that the Peat is often used in a casing with verm and buffers(Lime/Calcium Carbonate, etc.) as well.  I don't think it would work as a substrate, but it could work great in a mix cased on top of a fully colonized substrate(I used simple BRF/Verm cakes)
I dunno if this was of any help, but it is my 2cents (currently been watching my first 50/50 casing work its way to fruits)and I hope it helped a bit and wasn't completely useless to yourself or others.

that's awesome, thank you. good luck with your grow!

Aww.  Thankies, you as well!
Something has gotta work for you in the long run, just takes the time and patience.
I am personally not always the strongest advocate of the search engine, but it CAN help. . . however, most of the time when you use the search in most internet forums, not just here, you get threads of someone asking as similar or even the same question and then being told to use the search engine before anyone has time to answer, and everyone else decides to jump on the "search engine" train, and no answers end up surfacing most of the time.
Of course searching should be a first resort, but not always is the first resort also the last.
Sometimes questions have gotta be asked/re-asked, yah know?  it's the nature of the archival beast!  lol

Just to show that I'm not a complete ass, I will tell you the best way to search this forum. Muda can vouch for this, for this is the way he and I learned to do our research. Don't use the search engine on this site, either use yahoo or google. It will bring up the best threads from this forum that relate to your questions. Focus on key words that relate to your situation rather than typing in a long drug out question. Hope this helps.

for those of you flaming her for not using the search engine, i think you need to go back and re-read the OP.  i don't think it's such a common question.

her question was not "what is coir, verm, or peat for?"

her question had more of a "why is it so..." vibe to it (which cannot be easily answered with a quick search).  just my two cents...

Well she said in the op that she couldn't find an answer. But in her last post she said she didn't have the time to search. Sooo... -5 to her for being lazy and lying and -5 to you for standing up for "her" since finding out she is a girl. Bravo

i did a search on the site, tried a few key word combinations and didn't yeild the answer to my question, so i asked. i probably spent 15 minutes searching. that's the time i had. sorry if that inconveniences you, azur.

thanks for the google tip, insanemike! that's super helpful!

Yeah, not trying to get a "down-rate" here as well, but I read your downrate and it sounded like more of a personal attack on you to me.  "a pussy" name-calling as a down-rate for no real reason!?  Are we 12 now?

i'm assuming you're talking about azur because i didn't personally attack anyone

if anything, i feel like i've been the most helpful person in this thread and im just trying to create some peace.  if azur thinks im being sexist, then it sounds like he needs to re-read this thread.  i could honestly care less who has a penis or a vagina on this board of people i'll never meet in real life.

im guessing he's drunk...
