First GrowLog B+

ok guys this is my first post and also my first attempt at mushroom cultivation. Wish me luck. I just wanted to keep a log of my grow on shroomery so hopefully others can get inspired and grow their own.
So for my setup, since it was my first grow and I don't own a PC I bought a grow kit from shroomsupply with prepasteurized grain, compost and casing. The kit ran me about $40. Also the B+ spore syringe was bought from premiumspores for $20.
1 Now I plan to build a still air box soon but the shipping with these companies were very fast and I was very excited. So I went to the bathroom armed with lysol and iso and I sprayed everything down and wiped everything down. So with gloves and a face mask on I inoculated 2 1lb rye bags.
It is only day 2 since I inoculated the bags and the temp I have them at is around 76-78. I inoculated each bag with 2ccs from the spore syringe which means I have 6ccs left in case this doesn't work out. I was told that it does not matter if I incubate these in the light or dark as long as the temperature is good. I was wondering if this is true or not because most teks I have read before usually say keep them in the dark. So does light or dark matter at this stage or does one cause myc to grow faster? I was just curious.
06/05/2015 2 Days after inoculation

I will keep everyone updated and post pics along the way. Also any answers to any questions will be greatly appreciated. Im hoping for at least 2 Oz dried after all is said and done. All the best guys.

always keep in pure dark... light is one of the fruiting triggers.
Are you going to keep those in a cake form, or transfer them to a tub?
I would think transferring to a monotub would be the choice of most, but that tek always seemed a little more difficult than cakes.

Give them light from colonization through fruiting, 12 on 12 off right from the get go.

Well actually I was going to follow the grow guide that's in shroomsupply website but according to their guide after fully colonized mix the 1lb rye with 2.5lb compost and then let that fully colonize in a bigger bag that they supply. And then after that apply casing directly on top inside the bag and just fan and mist daily. I am thinking about doing a tub though I just figure it will up my yield instead of just growing it out the bag. We will see when I get to that point.

I always thought light as a pinning trigger was a myth because in nature spores and myc are exposed to light daily I think it just triggers the directon of growth but what do I know. So I think I will follow the 12/12 schedule.

Lol well guess what guys I had indirect light on my substrate bags and the fiancee put it directly on and it actually dried out the rye seed inside on the front face of the bag with the injection port I dnot know if the heat killed my spores but I shook up the bags to redistribute moisture evenly and then shot them back up with 2 more ccs of spores. Does anyone think it's a lost cause or still salvageable.

Bags take a while to colonize from MS. I'd just give it some more time, I don't think the bag is toast yet
Light helps the mycelium at all stages of development. Main pinning triggers are, in order: 100% colonization of sub, FAE, moisture evaporation from the surface. Light helps because mushies derive some energy from the sun, like all creatures. But light, in and of itself, is not a main pinning trigger, it just really helps things along once everything else is dialed in. Many of our TC's here will tell you the same thing

That looks like a lot of moisture inside the bags, no?
I've had ms syringe take almost two weeks to show myc on rye berries before..

light doesn't bother colonization, it's a bit outdated info. I keep my jars on a shelf without covering them and they go fine.

No I kno light doesn't bother it but the heat from the light dried it out I'm actually starting to see myc growth on one but the other one no. Hope it comes around as well will post pics

What are you using for a light source and how close is it too your grains?

Ok so my first sign of myc was about 7 days after a ms inoculation and approx 5 days after the first sign of myc I have a ton of colonization points starting to thrive, definitely due to me shaking up the bag I plan to just leave it alone now maybe another shake at 70-75% colonization. Also I have about 3 or 4 ccs left in my spore syringe so I am thinking about isolating on agar and I have a question should I isolate starting with the ms in the syringe or take my biggest mushroom from this harvest and do a tissue transfer to agar to isolate. Let me know what you guys think

UPDATE 3 weeks after the MS inoculation and 8 days after last pic here we are now
06/24/2015
I've decided to just leave them alone and only check once a week for contams but before I made this decision I actually made some LI and I am going to test out how much time it will save me if I inoculated with LI instead of MS. I have 2 more 1lb grain spawn inbound and I am going to inject them both with 4 ccs one MS one LI
Honestly guys I'm excited new and just experimenting like crazy and as for end goals I want a few monotubs like 3-5 stacked fruiting while a few grains are colonizing in a never ending cycle. Who knows might even give sclerotia a shot as well I'm just not that patient for it lol any input would be greatly appreciated guys. PS I'm using the last of my spore syringe. I have another full syringe of LI left but I plan to isolate on agar from my first flush of mush I get from this grow.

You are correct. It is okay if light hits your spawn bags or spawn jars. What can cause your spawn to think its fruiting time is too much GE.

I think a day or 2 after the 6/24 picture you were good to go. So yup, i would spawn to mono ASAP.

Thanks shroomyaxn first thing in the morning I will mix with bulk in mono how long should I let the mono colonize before introducing it to fruiting conditions from what I've been reading it seems about 10 days or should I just wait until the mono is 100% colonized, I'm probably not going to case it.

Same as before, wait for it to fully colonize then introduce to fresh air No need to case cubes either

Just threw my spawn in the tubs with bulk mixed them up and they're ready. I made a rookie mistake and lined the tub with a black garbage bag so how would I be able to tell if it's fully colonized should I just wait for the top to fully colonize and than give it like a week to consolidate just to be safe or am I just worrying too much lol thanks a bunch for all your help guys
