Taking care of your patch

Hey guys!So i found my first patch and I am super excited like a new mother haha. Initial pickings (leaving the bottom half of the stem still in the ground) was about 5 days ago and I have been checking on them almost daily. They seem to grow quite slow! I estimate about 8-9 days for them to be a decent size again. Is this normal? I have attached a picture of the species I speak of.

So , moving on. I used my finger nails to pinch and break the stem. Next time scissors shall be used as these are said to make a cleaner job of it and should help regrowth hopefully. Now what I want to know, is there anything I can do to help nourish the patch/speed up the regrowth and just help these little fellas be big healthy boys in general. Should I get some dead leaves and sprinkle them around the patch as there is not much dead leaves in this patch? Fertilizer? Is that even how fungi work o.O Am I just better off leaving these guys alone instead of tryna help? Am also considering taking one of them and tryna replant them but I will do further research on that before posting that question in a seperate post. For now, Me and my girlfriend jst super excited about our little patch and wanna help our boys .
Should i also remove these red mushies that grow around them, do they compete for nutrition etc?

The location of this patch is near an industrial area, central auckland, and it doesnt look like a hugely nourishing patch compared to say a forest etc. Sorry for the super long amateur post , and the abundance of questions. Just really excited about finding my own little patch and i feel responsible for their care after having a great time on them, as dumb as that may sound haha.

you want to grab the stem and twist off the fruit with all the stem. Leaving a severed stump is not healthy for the substrate.
should be moved to mushroom hunting forum.

Interesting, so you believe cutting it with scissors is not the best method in terms of their health? I apologize for placing this in the wrong section, hopefully an admin will move this soon.

It doesn't matter how you harvest. Take the whole stem, cause you found it and now it's yours. Don't do anything to the patch besides water it if it gets dry for too long. It obviously has everything it needs.
You could take a spore print or clone on agar and then take that to grain then make more patches.

Thanks for the great feedback! I avoid taking the whole stem as I want them to grow back asap but if it hypothetically hasnt rained in a while in my part of the world (I know weather discussion is not allowed) I will water my babies . I am a complete amateur and the ultimate goal is indeed to clone them and try make more patches. I have been researching this and call me stupid but I am lost as hell -_- ... I will continue reading up on how to go about doing this thanks for providing me with some more keywords to google like grain and agar . I appreciate the help this website provides to newbies like myself. Thanks all.

Leaving a stem won't make them grow any faster, that stem just sits there and rots or becomes slug food.

I see! That makes sense now that you put it that way haha. So best thing to do would be to take the entire stem and just try not to damage the mycellium at the bottom?

Hey hardmage, I'm joining your thread now, from over here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21790567/gonew/1#UNREAD. But yeah, lets get this thing moved over to hunting and IDing. In just about every other thing I've read, it has been advised to cut the stem with scissors as to not damage or remove the mycelium/stump, so that's what I've been doing.
I've also got a whole lot of spore prints, I was gonna scrape them into a pressure sprayer from Bunnings and spray around my active wood chip patches as well as inactive patches to help fresh batches grow.

Indeed that is what i had heard too! Maybe I will get some further opinions on it soon, once this thread gets moved. I have alerted the mods about it being in the wrong section im sure it will get moved soon .
In terms of spore prints, that sounds like a great and easy Idea. I did not realize you could use the spores from spore prints to simply spray around and make new batches grow. On google most of the methods to create new patches seem so complicated !!! Will you be mixing the spores with water? If i am not mistaken that means they wont grow this season, it will be next season. I am considering simply attempting to replant a whole shroom, stem fully intact and all, into my backyard as it has bark and nutrient rich soil .

Yeah I have no idea whether the spray tek will work, yes it will be with water and yes I believe it wont be until next season before anything happens. I've seen it mentioned around here, and it seems the easiest thing to try. I'm studying/working full time so don't have that much time to fuck around. I may try a PF cake method in a jar at some point during my uni break and see what happens. Replanting a whole shroom sounds like a good experiment also.

Spraying spores around isn't gonna work too well. The methods used to make patches really aren't hard.
