would this be a worthy test?
    #21764013 - 06/04/15 11:44 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

hey y'all fellow fungal hedz,

Ive got 4 quart jars of treasure coast (MS inoculated) that are closing in on full colonization.  I wanted to split them into 2 mini monotubs, 2 jars to each tub.

I however wanted to run my own little experiment.  I've been having good luck lately and want to see how far I can push it before some major fuckup puttin my dick in the dirt lol.

so my first thought was to just spawn one mini mono with a coir/verm mix, then the second one with a hpoo/coir/verm mix.  Will there be noticeable differences between perhaps the total yield, fruit size and potency between the two substrates?  I'm so unsure of this because MS is a crapshoot of genetics.  I'm thinking if one did do better than the other, it could just be a better strain that took hold compared to the substrate itself.  would this be worthy of testing?  I've never worked with hpoo before, but I have my pasteurization method down pretty well so I'm not terribly scared of it, but I'm thinking with the genetics being from MS would it even be worth trying the hpoo, since coir is so much easier and failsafe.

the second test I was thinking of trying was spawning both mini monos with coir/verm, then putting one under a 12/12 light cycle of a room lamp, and the other just getting direct natural sunlight.  We used sunlight only for our first cambodian monotub and had great success, over 5 ounces dried from all 3 flushes off of 4 MS quart jars spawned into a 66qt.

thanks for any input!

You'd be better off doing this experiment with an isolate rather than from MS.

Man, I get your desire to experiment. If you want to do it, just do it as long as it doesn't affect ANYONE negatively. Don't mess with contams. I will say that your experiment will be invalid because there are too many variables. You should take all your enthusiasm for testing this and put it towards agar. You could just grow out the the jars you have as normal, and while you wait for that to happen, get some agar plates going. Then find the best of the best in your grow (fastest, biggest, prettiest, whatever you like) and clone it. Learn and practice on the substrate of your choice, then if you want to to experiment, go for it. At this point I feel that the trial and error has been done for you. Stick to a tried and true substrate mix that works for you, but if you want to push the envelope after putting in the practice, absolutely go for it and be sure to share the knowledge. Remember, it's only science if you write it down.

Thank you for pretty much summing up how I felt inside about this Jenkinz   coir is tried and true and has been working great for us, and honestly our last batch was so excellent I'm just getting ancy trying to move to poo so fast.  But yes you are absolutely right, I am going to start some agar work with our next ms inoculation.  Plus, i had left my poo outside to dry and its STORMING BALLS right now so thats out the window anyway :p
