The Military has Too Much Money 3

Seriously though, DOD just gives crazy shit away to school district PD's. grenade launchers, APC's, M16's. That shit is expensive. Since when do we have so much extra money hanging out of our ass in this country(USA)that we can afford to throw away all that shit. It's not like the LAUSD PD is ever going to use grenade launchers. I think its just a way to get that equipment off the books, so the military can buy even more shit that they'll just throw away. Check out a surplus auction some time. you'll be surprised at the shit they auction off for 150 bucks(min. bid). stuff like duece and a half trucks with only a few thousand hours use are a dime a dozen. Amphibious vehicles, fired brass, office chairs, all for pennies on the dollar. (and thats the stuff they sell to the public) I can't even guess how many actual firearms they've simply given away to PD's around the country. WTF? and meanwhile, we don't have money for roads, bridges, education, infrastructure improvements, etc.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was a lot more oversight on the defense contractors who make the tanks, missles, etc. You know they're stealing us blind.

The us military answers to no one.
They can do whatever they want and no one has the authority to stop them.
You know why? because the people who would object to it dont even know about it. its classified
If you don't even know about something, how can you be against it?

http://www.newsweek.com/how-americas-police-became-army-1033-program-264537
Quote:
America has been quietly arming its police for battle since the early 1990s.
Faced with a bloated military and what it perceived as a worsening drug crisis, the 101st Congress in 1990 enacted the National Defense Authorization Act. Section 1208 of the NDAA allowed the Secretary of Defense to “transfer to Federal and State agencies personal property of the Department of Defense, including small arms and ammunition, that the Secretary determines is— (A) suitable for use by such agencies in counter-drug activities; and (B) excess to the needs of the Department of Defense.” It was called the 1208 Program. In 1996, Congress replaced Section 1208 with Section 1033.The idea was that if the U.S. wanted its police to act like drug warriors, it should equip them like warriors, which it has—to the tune of around $4.3 billion in equipment, according to a report by the American Civil Liberties Union. The St. Louis County Police Department’s annual budget is around $160 million. By providing law enforcement agencies with surplus military equipment free of charge, the NDAA encourages police to employ military weapons and military tactics.

Army surplus down the street. Has $500-$600 retail, Surefire weapon mounted lights for about $100. New in the box.
When you buy one, you're actually paying for it twice.

"We currently spend more on defense than the next 7 countries combined. Defense spending accounts for almost 20 percent of all federal spending — nearly as much as Social Security, or the combined spending for Medicare and Medicaid. The sheer size of the defense budget suggests that it should be part of any serious effort to address America's long-term fiscal challenges. National security threats have evolved over the past 50 years, changing the nature of U.S. commitments around the world. We need a defense budget that matches these new security challenges, not the threats of the last century. We should also recognize that a strong economy is essential for providing the resources to meet future threats, and addressing our long-term structural debts will keep our economy strong. Indeed, as Admiral Mike Mullen, the past Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has said: "The single greatest threat to our national security is our debt." link for graph below U.S. Defense spending

Not sure what your talking about. PD don't have rocket launchers and that sort of surplus from the government. They get basic shit like armored vehicles and small arms. I'd rather the military sell the surplus to get money back then to pawn it off to other countries.
People act like they know the inns and outs of how our government works but have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. We have enemies everywhere so I hope we spend a good amount of money on our defense. without it we wouldn't be here.

HAHA! yeah i know, right?
Sorry bro, you are wrong. They do give away shit like grenade launchers to school district PDs. The shit is only given back after the Newspaper prints front page shit about it and the public finds out.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/l-a-school-district-police-armed-with-grenade-launchers-armored-vehicle/
Quote:
Los Angeles Unified School District police officials are considering whether they need the armored vehicle and grenade launchers they received from the U.S. military, CBS Los Angeles reported.
But officials are relinquishing some of the weaponry after civil rights and education groups urged the Defense Department to end the program, according to The Los Angeles Times.
L.A. Unified is one of at least 22 school systems in eight states that receive the military-grade equipment, the newspaper reports.
The armored vehicle is worth $733,000, and the school district's police force got it from the government for free.
The district is also in possession of grenade launchers, which it received for free from the military after 9/11.

I have an SKS with a grenade launcher. It's the grenades that matter so having a grenade launcher really doesn't mean shit.

Have any of you attended a public school on Los Angeles? The students are armed like a fucking army. A grenade launcher isnt even close to what they need to keep those kids from burning the place down.

Would you rather us have knockoffs? Or like the dented can versions?
Those bombers cost so much but they work so well. I'm not complaining. We could be like other countries and have to rely on some other country for our defenses. Instead we can sleep tight knowing our enemies will never get within a thousand mile of our borders.
If someone want to invade from the west they have to take out Hawaii, or else our navy will flank them. If they come through the east, all our bases in Europe will have to be taken out first for the same reason, and the nations which house those bases won't take kindly to those actions.
Complain about our defends all you want, at least your complaining in English and not German or Russian. Move to Mexico if you want a shit military.
