Enough is enough
    #21761960 - 06/04/15 02:40 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Had a pretty nice trip last night and it's taken me a couple trips to finally put my lazy ass in gear. I've decided it's time to get rid of all this weight and get my life Into check instead of aimlessly going about the usual.  What have you guys done to drop some weight? I used to play football so I know all the strength training shit. Just want to know what worked for anyone that has been in my situation as I kinda wanna drop it off fast as possible. I'm looking to lose a good 80 lbs or so.  Thanks for any insight. Can't cut out beer only downside ha.

As fast as possible isn't gonna cut it. One pound at a time dude. Even then you're gonna put on muscle so that number will stagnate at times. You want a full body workout as often as possible. Lots of cardio. No more junk food and only eat at specific times.

I was actually trying to cut weight since January, I've been working out but not losing weight because of my diet going above and under maintenance throughout the week for the first 5 months of the year but at least I put on a little muscle. After my 1P-LSD trip is honestly where all my motivation came from to take it more seriously and I'm undergoing a more serious cut now to try to get from my starting 20% or so to 10-15%bf.

My recommendations are; don't smoke weed, even if you resist munchies on it like I did, it deregulates fullness receptors which can make you binge hours after you sober up. Secondly, cut down on carbs big time, look into keto. Going super low carb, like <30 a day, will after a few days prevent sugar/carb crashes and a lot of hunger cravings, and also the first week you will drop about 5-10 pounds of water weight from going low carb which isn't fat but at least it will help you feel better psychologically.

Also, take up weightlifting. Even 3 days a week is enough to make good progress as a beginner, join a gym and do compound lifts, check out stronglifts 5x5 or another beginner program. Because you have a higher higher bodyfat % than some skinny stick figure, you can actually gain strength and a few pounds of muscles whole simultaneously losing fat because all your extra fat can provide a sort of cushion for your muscles to draw from. You'll also thank yourself as you get skinner because being skinny with no muscles kinda sucks, but having muscles to cut down to makes it even more worthwhile to sticking to.

Oh, and weightlifitng burns a few 100 calories without spiking your hunger as much as cardio does. So that's a plus.

Another tip: try taking a few grams of kratom before the gym, it can really help with reducing soreness and increasing endurance. Also can suppress appetite in some people.

Nutritionally, try to get a bare minimum of .6g protein per pound of LBM. Use an app like MFP to track ALL your macros and calories to keep yourself in check. Stick to a deficit of 500-1000 a day to lose 1-2 pounds a week.

If you have a problem sticking to a deficit or you keep binge eating or cheating on your diet, go to the pharmacy and buy bronkaid. It's probably the most well known appetite suppressant that bodybuilders use.

I was a lineman when I played and ended up being a little over 300 by the time it was all said and done.  If you wanna drop weight I'd recommend a decent diet first, then as much cardio you can handle.  I dropped 40 lbs the first year of that.  It works if you have enough moxy to stick it out.

Goddamn 300 pounds! How tall are you GreenArrow? Ive always been relatively thin 6"1 180. What do you recommend for bulking up a little bit? I wouldn't mind being just under 200 pounds (190-195).

Same for me I was a lineman all beef as shit then had a injury senior year and blew my scholarship. Muscle turned to fat and just fell into the 9 to 5 mundane. 5 years later and I'm finally doing something about it. What kind of strict diet did you do that worked?

6'4'' actually.  Honestly there are so many wieght gainers out on the market.  When I was real big into supplements I remember Myoplex and EAS putting out relatively good products.  Just make sure and do your research.  It's so much different nowadays than it was even when I was into it.

You'd be surprised what they have on the market as far as supplements go.

I lost a lot of weight in about a year by really changing my eating habits. I just used to eat retarded amounts of food. What I needed was controlled portions, and to force myself to go as long as possible between meals (not like starve yourself long, just stop eating all damn day). I didn't accomplish this by going on some strict diet... My life just changed drastically. I became more active and spent a lot more time outside moving around, and a lot less time sitting around being lazy. I wasn't exercising at all, really. Just walking around town and doing things...

Two meals a day plus a small breakfast or snack here and there is all I really need.

I started eating a lot of stir-fried veggies and rice, and lean chicken. I cut out soda completely - its garbage. What you really need to cut back on is sugar. Fast food too, obviously. Just give yourself a no fast-food rule for a couple months and stick to it.

Eat lots of avocados. Yes, they are high in fat, but it is good, healthy fat that will help lower your cholesterol. Healthy oils like avocado oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, are good for you, but avoid vegetable oil, corn oil, canola oil, these all will promote inflammation. A diet of healthy fats and lower in carbs will actually help you lose weight, so long as you're not over-consuming them and you're being somewhat active. Also drink lots of water. This will help when you feel hungry, and I think it also can help speed up your metabolism. Being dehydrated is not going to help you lose weight.

I know my main problem was (and still is - I have to watch it) that I can eat a LOT of food in a sitting. If you're eating out all the time, they're giving you way too much food to eat at once. I've started buying frozen meals at trader joes - believe it or not they're delicious and cheap. 2-3 bucks a meal and tastes like something you'd get at a restaurant, seriously. Their indian and thai stuff is delicious. I don't know if you have trader joes where you live, but that place is fucking awesome. Your food comes in controlled portions, that means you have to cook another one if you want to be a fat ass and eat more than one portion. It works great for me, because if I cook a big meal, I have no self control, I'll eat until its gone
:lolfat:

I used to weigh almost 300 pounds at one point. At my skinniest I got down to 165 (I'm pretty tall) Right now I'm at about 195 and working on getting closer to 180, which I think is probably a pretty healthy weight for someone my height. Just saying, it can be done, but it takes a lot of self control, and believe me, I know how hard it can be, when you're in the habit of eating too much. I mean your stomach literally stretches - that's why I can eat so much. It takes more to make me feel full - more than I actually need. So it can be hard to stop when I've had enough.

A good rule to follow is not to eat after a certain time in the evening - the earlier the better. That's when you really pack on a lot of weight - when you're consuming tons of calories at the end of the day, and going straight to bed with no way to burn it off. And I love getting super high and eating myself to sleep, believe me.

I don't know how people eat avocados. It's like some evil asshole decided to make some kind of egg vegetable that would trick people in to thinking it's a fruit.

Watch your diet and include some light cardio 3x/week. If you are under 28 years old, you shouldn't have any difficulty dropping the weight. Don't do anything drastic such as crash dieting or diet drugs and you'll see major results.

Alcohol does fuck up your metabolism but if you enjoy a few beers after a jog, you'll be fine.

It's all in diet.

Avocados are one of my favorite foods.

It's because you're Canadian :canadian: . Don't you guys french fries and gravy and cheese curds and shit?

You must not have had any good Mexican food if you don't like avocados. Blows my mind, I love them

I know it's hard but if you can go mostly vegetarian you'll drop weight like crazy.  By mostly vegetarian I mean no beef, no pork, no meat at all except for fish one meal a day or less (grilled, not battered and fried) and on occasion you can have small amounts of chicken (once again not fried, no skin, just white chicken breast).

Eat rice, grilled veggies, garbanzo beans/chickpeas, broccoli, carrots, kale salads with low fat dressing, almonds, etc.  For your once a day fish try mahi mahi, salmon, tilapia, etc.  Keep fish portions small, about the size of a deck of cards is all you need.  Combined with cardio you will melt off pounds like crazy, and as long as you're picking vegetables and fruits you like you won't even miss the meat after a while.  No fried foods, any potatoes eaten should be in small amounts and baked or mashed not fried.

If you can hack it, make the meals 5 small ones a day, spaced out every 3 or 4 hours if possible.  The goal is to keep your body from going into starvation mode (aka hoard the fat mode) by feeding it a steady amount of food in small portions you will make the body feel that it's ok to burn fat to supplement the lean food you're eating.  Small, frequent portions also have an advantage in that your stomach doesn't get jammed up with a bunch of food at once, and can thus digest it quicker and reduce the size of your gut since you won't need a big old beer belly to hold big globs of food at a time.

Another good meal replacement for when you're on the go is Clif bars, they have tons of different flavors and are pretty cheap at about a buck each, but they have lots of vitamins and protein to help fill you up until you can get a proper meal.
