worried about my bridgesii

Hello all! New to the forum, first post! Quick question: I just adopted a beautiful little bridgesii (I think, I.d. would be great) and the little guy has these weird white spots around his base. Any idea what this is and if there is a way to remedy it?

Definitely Bridgesii. Those spots are usually black ones from sun that turn white and corky. No way to remove them, but they are perfectly fine. Your baby is healty, don't worry.

Most bridgesii are finicky little buggers, they seem to just get those spots whenever they feel like it but they don't hurt anything.

Awesome, thanks guys. A few more noob Q's:
Any guidelines for how much/often to water? How big should it be before I try to re-pot?

If your in a zone where the tempetures rise into the tripple digits then I'd water every other day , but you can easily get away with watering once a week , twice a week , when ever you like. Trichocereus , i beleive can handle much more water than other columnars but its the Bridgesii that's is more prone to problems- similar to the one your describing . From other people's expirence I've read on brdgesiis is that they grow best with more shade because of sun burn problems , Ect.
Trichocereus are slutty cacti who like to spread their legs- id reccomend transplanting when the entire container fills with roots - transplant into the "roundest" pot possible, one that's not entirely deep as it is round.

I transplant all of my large plants into 5 gallon buckets. They are 10.5 inches across and probably 22-24 deep. I would check your soil mix to decide if it needs a repot now. If its too organic, and not well draining, it can be an issue.
The white spots can also be scars from where other cactus needles poked it.

Yeah I have my bridgesii in mostly full sun and they love it. They also love lots of water, but keep in mind I have basically zero humidity here so your situation may vary.
