I was thinking the same thing some days ago.. I just have to do more research on cameras before purchasing one.

You'd better be prepared to spend a couple/multi thousands of dollars to compete with DN. It would take a long time to do the post processing he does as well, not to mention travel times.

Not looking to compete but I could probably only afford 1,000 bucks right now so maybe I should hold off a little until I can afford something propper..
Or maybe I can find something that will still take some quality shots ?
Anyways.. beautiful photo's keep them coming !!

Here's a great starter kit for a good price(note: this particular one doesn't have a charger). It's the camera that I started on, and I love it. I recommend it with these two exact lenses 18-55 IS II, 55-250 IS II.
I'd also buy a cheap set of macro extension tubes Like these. It will allow you to take better pics of bugs, flowers, etc.

That's the exact kit I bought off of craigslist for $500 Brand new in box in 2013. After installing the Magic Lantern firmware, I was really impressed with that setup. It was given to a young man who said it was too complicated for him. . I gave it to my wife when I got my 70D.
I have a EOS 70D now and love the dual auto focus feature. I have also invested in the STM series of Canon lenses and don't think that there's a more versatile/economical system out there. I've added a stereo condenser DSLR microphone and can shoot awesome HD video with it. Great tip DG.

Anyways, just watch for deals on ebay, amazon, and even craigslist. Don't wait and save up for top of the line. You'll have wasted time without a camera, then put a fat amount of money into something that may not be your bag after all.
Get a cheap DSLR like the T3i, and learn on that. If you really enjoy photography, then you'll stick with it and know that it's worth investing more money into. You'll know when you've outgrown your gear, by then, you'll have acquired knowledge needed to work the market, and choose camera and accessories to fit your style.
Your prior skills will carry on to the next camera.

You are shooting full frame with those spectacular stills though, correct? I don't think that you can get the dynamic range out of an APS-C sensor for that sharpness you get in your stills. My guess is a Mark 5 III, no?
