Super quick wbs prep in dirty stock pot question

I have a big stock pot, but it sat in the garage and has weird stuff built up on it. I washed it for hours, but some staining/slight gunk remains. Could it be in any way harmful(fruits for me, or to the mycelium) to soak/prep wbs in? Thanks.

Can you take a pic and post it up here? It's difficult to tell one way or the other by just words
If, the answer is "no" though, is it possible for you to just use a bucket/pail of some sort? Ime, boiling grains isn't necessary if they've been properly washed and soaked, since at that point they have sufficient moisture for colonizing. Were you going to boil the grains?

I was just trying to follow Frank's tek for monotubs. Lol. I'll get right back with the picture
If the pot is too bad, could you let me know how to prep the grains then? Thanks

A link to RR's vid about grain prep...

You can ignore the boiling step though imo, there are many experienced cultivators who don't boil, myself included.
After they are washed clean, I let them soak for 24-36hrs.
Once soaked, I give them one final rinse and then fill my jars.
You can boil, but you also don't have to.
However, do you have a pressure cooker for sterilizing the jars?

Cool, sounds like you're all set. Imo, you don't need that dirty pot, or to boil your grains. I'm certain you'll have success as I do, provided you adhere to the rest of your tek's outlines and pay close attention to your sterile technique.

Some people feel it's necessary to get the moisture content just right. While it's true that many people have success with boiling grains, many people have success without boiling.
When I boiled them, I found that they were harder to shake up later. When I didn't boil, My grains looked and performed perfect.
My experience tells me to tell you not to boil. Someone else may come on here and say the opposite of me, so it's up to you who's advice you follow
EDIT: No Problem dude, glad to help

different grains have different preps, and of course there's variations within the prep methods of the same grains.
wbs, millet and other small grains I wouldn't boil or simmer, rye loves that 5-10min boil after a soak and most people seem to agree oats just wants a 40min boil +/- 5 min, no soak.
for wbs I would recommend franks tek or foomans wbs prep!

I've usually did a quick simmer or throw WBS or Oats into boiling water then turn off heat and let set a few minutes.
The main reason I do it simply helps them dry on the outside when I dump them into the strainer steaming hot. (then into a large tote with newspaper on the bottom and spread them out. Lots of ways to do it.
If you are doing a say 18-24hr long soak then either way should work for WBS and oats.
Some people also do a "no-soak" but boil prep. Several ways to prep grains. Technique isn't the important part of prepping grains, the important part is getting them properly hydrated and also not having a bunch of bursted grains from over boiling them....

seems like the wbs/rye/oats enthusiasts don't soak lately. Realistically you're just trying to hydrate grains without bursting them. If you know what hydrated grains should look and feel like, you're good to go.
