Sorry, I have a justified habit of skipping most of what you post. Like others, the obnoxious clickbait title drew me in. It is absolutely adorable that anyone things some blithering moron with some mushrooms will topple BIG MEAN MONSANTO, though.
Also, the alleged ant-slaying fungi takes up to three weeks to "work". I can use chemicals to accomplish the same thing in a matter of minutes. Oh, right, and it clearly says it's "not available". That does make the speculation rather pointless for the time being.

Yes, pure hype.
I saw Paul speak in Chicago a few weeks ago, and he mentioned this article and rolled his eyes.
Quote:
rxb said: this has been around for 6 years now with no product...
I don't think a product is forthcoming either.
Paul has patented it, which might stop others from doing the same thing.
But during his talk I think he said he was going to open up all his patents, which would be great because then no one else could patent these things.
I am still not totally convinced this mycopesticide thing works very well in the real world.

Why would anyone do that? Haven't you seen http://www.reddit.com/r/FloridaMan?
If someone is going to save up they should move somewhere awesome like Oregon or California or Mexico City.

Most species of cordyceps afaik only target a few specific insect groups?
That could be both useful, or burdensome depending on the application.

I think the blame should be laid on the people who ordered the chemical and sprayed it. Monsanto is just a chemical company, if they hadn't sold it to the government some other company would have.

Ophiocordyceps unilateralis
You'll need to put something for them to climb up probably near the nest would be best

Somewhat off-topic but I'm tired of this 'Monsanto being burnt at the stake' for any and everything purportedly negative to do with plants and agriculture. Anyway Monsanto wasn't the company that produced the dioxin contaminated Agent Orange. They may have questionable business practices but transgenic crops are not and have never been shown to be "bad" or "unhealthy" simply because of the way in which they were created.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agent_Orange, it does appear that Monsanto sold some of the dioxin contaminated agent orange.

You're right. I think though, that if monsanto willingly made the products knowing the intents and purposes by the US government i would think that it would still cast some fault on them... Then again the government doesn't really let the people making the orders for them know what they are being used for as everything is compartmentalized.

I agree, though by that logic bomb manufacturers should be held accountable for their unethical ways of making profit at the expense of human lives.
It is amazing to me that so many people hate Monsanto, but few hate the weapons manufacturers. As if it is worse to switch a few DNA base pairs around than it is to make explosives that you know are going to be dropped on people.

I think monsanto is doing a really amazing thing in a field where no one has gone before on such scales. A big problem the is the word "GMO" and the irrational fear or bad connotation attached to it IMO.
People just latch onto GMO like a political movement with out listening for one second about what monsanto has to say. Plus what other scientist in the field think about it who actually have a qualified opinion to comment on such things.
