Well to tell the truth Austin isn't the place it was even 5 years back.  Lots of hipster douche-nozzles running around.  Then again once you find a group of native Texans you can really find a lot of neat little spots down there.

It only starts to bug me once you start hitting up house parties and people treat you different because you don't wear horned rim black glasses or are a fat guy in really skinny jeans.

People that spend thousands of dollars over the summer going to see live music aren't exactly the most fiscally responsible group of people.

I collect at shows/festivals that hold special moments that about it. One of my buddies has spent over $5000 on pins which is crazy to me.

At that point it would make more sense to make your own pins and trade them with other people.

I collect hat pins, and have a 5 lb hat. I haven't spent hundreds of dollars on them though. People like to collect things, be it rocks, coins, cards, stamps, action figures, pins, whatever.... If it makes you happy, who gives a shit? I find it especially funny that a bunch of druggies that piss their money away on chemicals & weed are snubbing their noses at people that spend their money on something tangible.

An experience that fades when the drugs wear off. Then you want more. I don't even want to consider the amount I've blown on drugs over the years. There's a lot more to life than being fucked up. And pins do provide an experience, as do any collectables. If you're into them, it makes you happy. Pins are a form of artwork. Looking at them makes me happy. Looking at paintings makes me happy. Listening to music makes me happy. I get that joy every time. Don't have to pay for more, because I still have it.

yeah im just saying, drugs serve more of a purpose than pins do

ive been in this scene 5+ years, never bought a pin, done tons of drugs, and ive had like just as much fun as you

like you really cant deny it, pins dont do anything, drugs most definitely do

Mementos are nice to have.  Eventually we aren't going to be able to remember any of this shit. I still regret throwing out all my rave flyers 15 years ago and when I think back to that time period I remember less and less of it.  Pins aren't expensive, its 10 bucks to help out a head trying to make money.  It's giving back to the community, which I have no problem with.

Ive never really gotten into pinz myself. I mean I have like lit 2 pins. I mostly buy them to give other ppl and stuff you know like you see the perfect pin for someone or summin. I've jus never really worn a hat either since my hair is already pretty much a hat neway so I dont really have place to wear them around. I like t shirts or even stickers more than pins.

im not saying pins suck or anything. some are really cool

id personally rather just take that 20$ and buy drugs with it

i save all my ticket stubs and festival wristbands/schedule booklets for the same reason as you have pins. as a memento, just to remember

if im at a big show and i got print out tickets, ill wait for the show to be over and once people clear out ill look for a ticket stub (and whatever other groundscores lol)

You're not getting it. Just because something isn't ingested doesn't mean it doesn't mean it do anything. This is where druggies lose the plot of reality; thinking you have to take drugs or whatever for something to happen. Not true. If something makes you happy, it makes you happy. When I was in elementary school I found a small toy plane. I liked planes, and it was cool, so I picked it up. It was a warm sunny day, and I spent recess by myself playing with that plane. I'll always remember the warmth of the sun on me as I ran around with that plane on the playground, lost in my imagination. That experience was every bit as euphoric & magical as any drug I've taken....and more wholesome as well, cause it wasn't artificial. This was over two decades ago, and I still remember it fondly.

If you don't like pins then they obviously won't make you happy. People don't need to buy pins, anymore then they need to eat drugs to have a good time. It comes down to whether you want to or not. 20 years from now I'll look at those pins & remember the period of time I bought them. I'll remember the shows, the people, the experiences. The intricacies of the way the Molly & K I took made me feel will be long lost. In fact, the shows that I did get material mementos at are the ones I'm more likely to actually remember well, because I can look at said memento, and my memory is triggered. I've been using drugs for over 15 years, been in this scene for about the same amount of time, and a lot of the fun I had is far back down some twisty road in the backwoods of my memory. It doesn't last.

Frankly I'm far more interested in making new memories with new experiences. Ones that don't involve getting all spun out & buck wild.
