Dirty, messy people...

I don't know how they do it.
Sometimes I see the inside of my roommates' rooms and I just can't believe how they live in there.
Dirty clothes everywhere. They never swept or mopped the floors once. Never really cleaned anything at all since they moved in and they just live in there perfectly happy as if it doesn't annoy them in the slightest. Personaly, I don't get how people can live in their own shit like that.
My mom has apartments buildings in a small town where there isn't lots of high paying jobs, so her tenants are always lower income people. The building was built for lower income people when she bought it so it is what it is. Some of them live there for years before they move out and we go in to repaint the walls... It's absolutely nasty. The curtains stand up by themselves because of the cigarette tar stuck in them. You can barely see out the windows. The toilets are always super dirty. There are clumps of dust in every corner, the fridge smells as if something died in it and the oven has a 2 inch thick layer of shit inside it.
People don't fucking clean up after themselves and live in their own shit. I don't get it.
Do you live in your own shit? Are you a clean person?

I can be pretty nasty at times. I try and do a solid cleaning twice a month though. Spraying down the bathroom, shower, sink, vacuuming, shit like that

Well, I don't see the point of creating threads that won't get any replies at all.
Most replies = discussion. That's the point of a forum.
But feel free to not create threads or create some that won't get replies.

I'm far from perfect, but when I reach the point where I start feeling discouraged by the amount of cleaning to do, that's when I get a burst of motivation and clean everything.

I'm a perfectionist and have to have everything in order and clean. In my day job I use alot of sterilization methods and knowledge of microbiology is a must, so I do know what nasty microscopic shit people leave behind.
Some years back I had a friend who were so unhygienic and messy that he developed a nasty flee and mold disaster in his home. It got so bad that the hole thing just became lethal for him. Me and some friends were to have a "intervention", and help him clean up. But before we got to that he got arrested for downloading childporn, so instead we beat the shit out of him!

Ususally I will clean my whole house, and then I keep it clean for about 2-3 months. After that, I just say fuck it and don't maintain the cleanliness. After about 5 months, the whole house is just covered in clothes and I know when it is time to clean because I can't find anything to wear
I don't see it as nasty though, I do have kind of a big house though and I like to be cozy and a little cramped so maybe that is why I don't see it as a problem. Filling up all of that empty space makes it more cozy to me

I have a cleaning lady who comes once a week to clean the kitchen (not dishes tho), bathroom, toilet and vacuum the hallway.
As for my personal space.. it can get messy, but I never allow it to get so messy it would take me more than 15 minutes to make it presentable again, I usually clean once a week on the weekend.
and once a month or so I do a proper cleaning, swiping all the surfaces, moping and so on...
thinking back on some of the people I've shared houses with just makes me sick how vile some people can be

My house is generally messy because i have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Toddlers and babies give zero fucks about where anything goes. I try to clean up every day or couple days or so and vacuum, but it gets out of hand fast. I have literally stopped hanging out with people with bug problems in their house though. I'm not bringing fleas or bedbugs back to my place. I dont need friends that bad.

I hear this. I used to work a job that would have me in a wide variety of homes. The customers were of many different ethnicities and socio-economic classes and i've seen some nasty shit. Besides the obvious things like clutter, clothes strewn about and dirty bathrooms - the most noteworthy example i saw was: a clump of asian hair that looked like steel wool ball, ontop of the drain in an upright shower.
No joking - easily 3" by 3". I don't know how it became formed into a ball like that, or why someone would leave it like that.
Another really common thing is red mold on shower curtains or in general nasty showers....
I am pretty clean. Certainly organized, would never leave the house without making my bed. Since breaking up with my partner the toilet has been getting a bit grimy/smelly but i make a note to clean the bathroom every 2 weeks. Quite clean in the kitchen, tidy everywhere else - I will leave books and other things laying around though...

accomplishment is also felt when having/owning less "things" that makes the mess. At my home, its easy to clean and have order in things, because we don't go buy stuff for fun and stack it with other things we really don't need. Its truly a great feeling to have your own abilities to make your self a comfortable environment, instead of having to surround yourself with "things" to fell cozy... Sorry I'm stoned, and English not so great atm

Yea I had this friend when I was a teenager that lived in complete squalor, they had 4 dogs that they kept indoors all the time in the basement den (one of those offset 3 level split level houses) there was a pool table stacked till overflowing with old news papers and random clutter, the floors were caked with dog shit who knows how deep, probably several inches. They also had ferrets that they often lost so their stuffed furniture was riddled with holes like swiss cheese and reeked of rodent urine, their carpets in the livingroom were a solid mat of filth, trash stacked and scuttled in all corners; really only a walkway from each popular location in the house. Their father was a motorcycle mechanic so amidst the trash and feces was motorcycle parts weeping lubricants like oil and brake fluid from one corner of the property to the other and even strewn throughout the house, even on the roach infested kitchen counters, gasoline leaking out of carbourettors my the cutting board smeared with 1000 meals prepaired and most often times spilled. Another friend lived like those hoarders tv show people and regularly shat himself - well I discontinued visiting him when I learned he regularly shat his pants.
Recently I had a friend with 37 acres of land, I lived with for a couple of months helping him ready for crops and off grid living, inside of his dwelling was like a trash dump, wrappers, dirty clothes, and uneaten food and dirty dishes covered his floors, you'd step on a coffee cup and it'd send you stumbling across the room wildly reaching out for furniture to steady yourself on - I once dropped a thing and when I sifted through the garbage to retrieve my thing I came upon a loaded and cocked revolver with badly tarnished barrel and rounds of ammunition; a variable explosion hazard - this was when I left and haven't spoken to him since.
My boss at the moment is a fairly wealthy man, he lives similarly, though he makes little efforts here and there to clean up after himself, the clothes that litter his home are 50/50 dirty/clean and most rotting food is in the overflowing kitchen sink rather than the floors and elevated surfaces.
I live in a motorhome in a trailer park and I live in clean pristine state, I've never really had any nice place to call my own, so what I do have I keep nice, I have a lot of pride in my things and my dwelling.
I think it is a problem with abundance and alwase having, I have spent over half of my life living in cars and vans and even under bridges/tents, its alwase the people that have never had to struggle that live like slobs, thy have no pride in their things, their space and their privilege.
But I think it is also human nature, we aren't naturally clean creatures, if it weren't for culture and certain religions most all of humans would live like the worst of us as outlined by this thread's postings.

I actually don't keep my car clean at all. I've got an emergency kit in the trunk and the trunk is organized. However - I have random baggies/papers/miscelaneous in my cup holders, maybe a shirt and toque strewn over the back seat and some stuff stuffed under the front seats. I don't really dust the inside and only wash the outside once every 4 months or so.
*shrugs*
I see absolutely no reason to put any effort into the upkeep of it.

haha having a really dirty car can help you tho
one time me and my friends all went to a concert and we all split an ounce of shrooms and had left 5 grams leftover...somehow we lost the last 5 grams and could never find it, thought it was long gone
then this kid like 2 months later gets his car searched by a cop, they found nothing...and not long after that he cleaned his car out and found 5 grams of shrooms lol...so his messy car actually worked to his advantage

Dude I once had a friend that lived in an apartment that looked like a dumpster, the worst part was her kids had made tunnels through all the junk and were living I'm this shit hole. Me and some other friends got together to help her clean it and just thinking about it makes me cringe to this day....maggots in the sink, baby rats nests in the couch, the floor in the kitchen was so sticky it felt like it was going to rip your shoes off when you stepped on it and the kids were sleeping on a nasty mattress on the floor that never had sheets on it.
We helped her clean all that shit up, got the kids new clothes (they were always wearing nasty clothes) bought her new furniture for the stuff we had to throw out and two weeks later it was right back to how it was... some people are just nasty, lazy people that don't care. It's not like she worked and didn't have time, she was perfectly happy in her nasty house, drawing a government check.

I am surprised so many shroomerites are crazy about keeping stuff clean. I definitely hate filth but my house can get a bit dirty after a while (mainly food wrappers and clothes)
Am I the only one who opens plastic wrappers on food and shit and just throw them on the ground? I have done that forever
My car has to be 100% clean though. I will not let my car get any shit on the inside or outside.

My car is disgusting. I use it as my personal garbage and only clean it out maybe once every 2 months. By the time I get to that point, there are several layers of garbage like rings on a tree.
I always figured it was my best security system. Nobody wants to break into a filthy ass car.
My immediate living area, however, is clean but cluttered.
