Yeah don't use the credit card spreading method... that's just way too prone to air bubbles. The rice grain glob in the center and smush it down works great and is the most failure-proof way I think. No you don't get 100% heatspreader coverage but you don't need that, mostly all around the center is what you are concerned with, it will smush out to the sides. If temps are too high even at idle then yeah it's likely bad thermal paste. Clean it off and re-apply.

Would be crazy if I was able to crank this fucker up another 700 MHz or so and I've just been settling because I don't wanna pull the cooler off again.
I guess I'll find out.. Sooner or later here.

Probably not a great idea if you were already seeing high temps at what you were before, heh. But whatever, it's not like you'll just kill the CPU or anything. It'll shut off before any serious damage can occur. The modern CPUs are robust as a motherfucker.

About 7C cooler than it was before. 100% load got me at the same temp as 50% load had me before. Guess I'll let prime95 run for a little bit and see what it does.
Looks like stress testing 4GHz caps me at about 60C. I'm pretty satisfied with that I think..
All in all 4GHz is running cooler than 3.8 was a few hours ago. Although, at 3.8 I liked to think of it as Lucky 38. New Vegas and such... Anyway thanks for the tips.

Inocuole said: What if you told a ferrari owner that, compared to your Kia, their car ran like shit? They'd get all huffy about it too. People who invest in things typically don't respond well to people telling them that investment doesn't matter, even if they already have decided that it does, hence the investment.
It's a big "your opinion and preferences suck", for no reason.
People who buy nice boats, trucks, clothes, fishing poles, or pretty much anything come off as elitist to people who have lower-quality versions of the same thing. It's always "Whatever I'm comfortable with what I have" Of course you are. It's not up to anybody to sound less pretentious to people who are okay with being the lowest common denominator. If you're okay with a one-size-fits-all experience, then fine. Enjoy it. Don't have to chime in every time people want to geek out about stuff they like.
And again, you continue to prove my point about PC gamers. Elitist attitudes always.
OK, I'll admit I took a jab a few posts back about how PC gaming sucks unless you are a nerd. I said that because I knew it would stoke the fire. I will take it back because it wasn't true, just a silly flame (which worked well I guess). You PC people are way too sensitive. But look at the way you speak to console gamers in every post. Your PC is a Ferrari and my console is a Kia? Your PC is "nice stuff" and my console is a "lower-quality version"? I am the "lowest common denominator" who settles for the "one-size-fits-all experience"?
I tell you guys all the time that I understand why you like PC gaming. You get a kick out of geeking out on hardware and pushing your machines to do things. You love the flexibility of being able to mod your games (often in silly ways that I don't understand). Its your thing, thats cool. But those things have no appeal to me. I want to not think once about my hardware at all. I want to fire up my game, sit back, and play it as the developers intended. But thats not OK with you. Somehow I am "settling for less" in your mind. And you will always condescend to me on the topic.
Sorry, but its not a Ferrari vs Kia thing. Maybe a Ferrari vs Jeep if you wanna draw comparisons. Two totally different things that cannot be compared. Some like to go 200mph, some like to climb a mountain trail. Why is one wrong? Just because you are the go-fast guy does it make me less because I want to go 4X4 instead? In the end we are both going somewhere and doing it the way we prefer.
Oh yeah, and I just skimmed over the last 40 posts or so. I have no interest in you guys talking about your hardware. Thats not a bash, just a preference. I'm sure theres a lot of good stuff there for guys who care, its just not my thing.
So go ahead, I'm ready, tell me how you are better than me again. As before I know you are dying to.

Dude just fuck off if trolling is your goal. Admitting you're baiting is pretty pathetic. Nobody's trying to have a dick measuring contest with you. Your insecurity is sure showing though.
A console doesn't fucking climb mountains, enjoy your kia. I don't care if you're interested in us talking about hardware either, why would you even tell me your preferences?

Personally think of it like digital cameras rather than cars. Some people get digital SLR cameras, which allow for better picture quality, more customization, and greater system expansion. Some people buy digital point-and-shoot cameras, which are easier to use and more integrated at the expense of picture quality, customization, and expansion.
Both take pictures, each appeals to a different set of preferences.

When I was shooting spore syringes into grain jars I thought people who preached agar had superiority complexes and were egotistical shits.
This discussion happens a thousand times a day all over the internet though.. Everybody obviously understands it's a matter of preference. Anyone who doesn't understand can look it up on their own.
Sup with the game though? Anybody have it already? Lookin at you, console guys.

I'm waiting anxiously for my preload to unlock. I've got it all downloaded and ready to go. I've got several grams of marijuana and (luckily) the day off. I'm doing a fair job of not thinking about it when I'm not looking at the fallout threads by ravenously devouring comic books and graphic novels. Tomorrow will be the true test of patience though.

True enough. I think I might have about 3/4 of an ounce still so I'll be set tomorrow night for sure. I got both PCs here preloaded, gonna do the ol offline steam trick so my lady can play too.
I gotta get all my agar work done before launch or everything will overgrow.

Lol. All you've been doing the whole time is swing your big PC-cock around telling me how its so much more awesome than my tiny console-cock. Its just too easy with you, but it always is when someone believes they are superior.
Enjoy the game, I know I will. And don't worry about me, I'll be having just as much fun as you the whole time.

Hope you have more than a couple weeks vacation because....
"400 hours So how big is Fallout 4? really, really big. Too big for Bethesda staff to have explored it thoroughly. “I've played the game probably 400 hours, and I'm still finding stuff that I haven't seen yet,” lead producer Jeff Gardiner said during an E3 2015 roundtable reported by gamesradar."
