2nd flush question
    #21756738 - 06/03/15 10:08 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Hi, I just harvested my first flush on a 66qt monotub. My questions are: If I am going to dunk my tub do I leave the liner and bottom half of the bag in the tub? Also if I have 3% peroxide, how much should I add to the water to kill any possible contams?

Thanks for reading and any input☺.

A heavy misting works just as well as dunking it IME. I personally wouldn't use peroxide either, as it could help, mycelium can defend itself from contams by itself usually.

You can mist heavily your tub few times a day untill it rehydrates. And you do not want to add any peroxide in water. It will burn mycelium!

Don't add peroxide to the water, if you're fully colonized, your sub will be very resistant to contams. Only use peroxide for cobweb mold. Some can be added to the perlite water for humidification to keep out nasties ime with no consequences to your sub, but that's if you're doing a SGCF.

You can dunk your tub easily without removing it. Place long sticks across your sub through the bottom holes you made for FEA. I use two pieces of a broken broom handle personally because I make the holes big enough to get a finger or two through. This will hold the sub down and keep it from floating too much. Then fill the bin with water on a gentle stream down the side of the sub until water pours out the holes (I like to use the bathtub for all this). Keep the water running so it doesn't sit still, and drain completely after an hour or two. Pull the sticks out, replug with poly, and back into fruiting.

Hope this helps  Happy Growing :mushroom2:

Ok great....I will go ahead and dunk it. Side note, what do you guys think about taking a couple quarts of colonized wbs, and using some old yogurt or sour cream containers with a few holes and poly at the level of the grain, and one in the lid. This will be without a casing, seeing as I dont have any on hand. Do you think this will work or no?

You won't need a casing with cubes ime, and they'll grow in almost any container that has conditions dialed in.

yes but add bulk sub. straight grains dont pin well at all.
if its a small container no need for polyfill just treat it as a cake fruited from the top.

wowimflabbergasted did something similar a while back.

I have seen grows done straight out of the jar.....would this not be the same?(using a container instead of a jar)

Myconin's broom handle idea is pretty solid! Unfortunately I use glued on ironed Poly filters that I can't remove. An alternative that works for mine is filling up old milk jugs with water and laying them on top of the sub, on their side. This anchors them down enough so it doesn't float up when filling the tub.

Yeah, if you can't remove your filters, then you'll have to weigh it down somehow without damaging the sub. What do you do about water in the FAE filters though? If they get wet, it's a nesting ground for nasties.

no need to weight it down really, bulk subs arent as solid as cakes
so just pour some water on and wait 2-4 hrs then drain well!

So yes the broom handles worked wonders lol.....I still had to lightly pour water on the sub a couple times because the sticks floated to the top of the holes, making the top of the sub higher than the water. Maybe in retrospect I should have made a couple weights to get the job done. Unless pouring the water lightly over the sub ruined it, it seems to have gone well, and is re-hydrated. Thanks for all the guidance
