Putting a strain on the backburner

Say you have a set (or sets) of genetics isolated for one species or variation.
If you have no plans to continue cultivating that species or variation in the forseeable future, do you usually scrap them and start from spores next time? Or, do you make an attempt to save the isolated mycelium strain?
What do you typically do?

Agree. If it's a good culture, why scrap it? Slants have been reported viable after a few months to a few years. They last especially long if you keep transferring them to new slants as they age.. You may not want to grow it now, but that may change too

Slants have been reported good for 20-30 years, not just a few.

Did you ever slant your culture? I recently brought a culture back to life that saw in a petri dish for a solid 6 months on a shelf. Not recommended, but it was a tough bastard.

Read an article on here that stated mycellium in water kept best. When I find a real winning culture, I'll probably save it as LI in the frige. Suck the mycellium off the plate and make blended LI as well. Not sure which will keep better. TBD.
Might crimp the syringe tip shut as well, or invest in some leur lock caps.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I've started grows with plates that had been in the fridge for many months. I got full canopies from both of them. Ive also been storing LI in my fridge and using it successfully after many months. I suspect the LI would be good after a couple years but I haven't has a chance to test that yet.
